What is a part time certified crop advisor?

A Part Time Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) is an agricultural professional who provides expert advice to farmers and agribusinesses on crop production, soil management, and pest control, but works on a part-time basis. CCAs are certified through the American Society of Agronomy and must meet education, experience, and examination requirements. In a part-time role, they may consult with clients seasonally, assist with specific projects, or supplement other employment. Their goal is to help clients improve crop yield, minimize environmental impact, and ensure sustainable farming practices.

What are some common challenges faced by part-time certified crop advisors, and how can they effectively manage their workload?

Part-time Certified Crop Advisors often juggle multiple clients and may have limited hours on-site, making time management and prioritization crucial. They frequently face the challenge of staying updated on the latest agronomic practices and regulations while providing timely recommendations to growers. Building strong communication channels with farmers and leveraging digital tools for record-keeping and remote consultations can help manage workload efficiently. Proactively planning field visits and collaborating with full-time advisors or agronomists also ensures continuity and high-quality service.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a part time certified crop advisor, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Part Time Certified Crop Advisor, you need a solid background in agronomy, soil science, crop management, and must hold the Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) credential. Familiarity with precision agriculture tools, soil testing kits, and farm management software is typically required. Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication help you build trust with clients and deliver tailored recommendations. These skills and qualifications are crucial for optimizing crop yields, ensuring regulatory compliance, and supporting sustainable farming practices.

Job description

Job Type
Part-time
Description
Spinnaker Consulting Group is different from other consulting organizations. We are a hands-on firm built around a team of experts with real-world experience who help companies navigate complex business challenges.
We are changing the consulting game because we are doers, working side by side with our clients to do what needs to be done to solve problems and drive results. In short, we're striving to be the consultants we wish we could have hired.
We are looking for dynamic professionals to join our team on a part-time basis.
The Advisor Role:
The Advisor role is a unique position, and it's not for everyone. It is an on-demand role, paid hourly when client engagements that fit your skills arise. Candidates who may find this a great opportunity include:
  • Individuals with their own solo-practitioner consultancy (or other small business) who may welcome additional engagement opportunities to supplement their own endeavors and income
  • Semi-retired individuals, or people on sabbatical, who want to keep their skills sharp, but who are not seeking full time work and who welcome breaks between engagements
  • Individuals who seek part time work to stay engaged in the workforce on a variable basis, while maintaining flexibility

Other Factors:
Advisors are always empowered to turn down engagements if for whatever reason the work, the timing, or other factor doesn't appeal to them. They'll be kept in mind for the next suitable opportunity that arises.
Advisors go through the same interviewing process for skills, experience, and cultural fit as full-time consultants. It is critical to Spinnaker that this is a good two-way fit. In fact, some Advisors have transitioned into full time Consultant roles, while some Consultants have transitioned into Advisor roles. If the idea of flexible work appeals to you, keep reading!
As an Advisor at Spinnaker Consulting Group, you will apply your skills and experience to help clients solve complex business problems and achieve their objectives.
Your Role:
  • Collaborate with our clients to refine their problem statements, develop future-state solutions, and implement impactful solutions
  • Engage with Client Team Members and proactively identify opportunities to help solve client challenges, adding value and driving collaboration
  • Leverage your project management and technical expertise to execute on tactical client engagement work
  • Independently overcome obstacles/impediments and provide solutions/advice
  • Use relationship management and delegation skills to effectively drive work through others
  • Provide timely updates to ensure deliverables and the engagement are on track, highlighting delays or impediments immediately when they are identified, following the day-to-day direction of the Team Lead

Requirements
Your Experience:
Please note that we have opportunities for advisors with a wide range of experience and seniority levels.
You have professional experience including:
  • You have seven to ninety seven years' professional experience in risk management or regulatory compliance in the Banking and Financial Services Industry
  • You have experience working in either or both first line business risk and control organizations as well as second line risk oversight organizations, having developed a solid understanding of various facets of risk and compliance programs and objectives
  • You understand internal control practices, risk management frameworks, and methodologies
  • You have experience with process mapping and optimization, process risk & control assessment, and/or control design and evaluation
  • You are a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM), Certified Enterprise Risk Professional (CERP) or are actively working towards certification
  • Regulator experience (CFPB, OCC, FDIC) is also highly desired
  • You are able to navigate sometimes ambiguous and unstructured problem sets
  • You have demonstrated ability to influence client decision makers and drive results through a team effort
  • You have developed problem frameworks, hypotheses, conducted test and analysis to drive solution development
  • You have experience supporting the design, implementation, and/or testing of risk and compliance management elements
  • You have strong research, organizational, analytical, problem resolution skills
  • You are experienced in project delivery and communicating effectively, both verbally and written to a wide audience
  • You are self-directed, accountable, creative, and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, client facing environment with a potential travel component
  • You have earned a bachelor's or master's degree in a related discipline and strive to expand your technical knowledge

Your Colleagues:
Each member of our leadership team has over 20 years of experience running and managing businesses in addition to critical job specific competencies. Every member of the Spinnaker organization has significant experience working in and with banks to help them run more efficiently and be more customer-focused.
In short, you won't find "career consultants" within our ranks and that blended experience ensures our associates and clients achieve their maximum potential.
