Job Description
The College of Arts and Sciences at Winthrop University seeks dynamic and qualified Adjunct Faculty to teach in disciplines across its 12 academic departments. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to high-quality, student-centered instruction that is informed by strong academic credentials and real-world experiences. Applicants should be passionate about fostering student success in an engaging learning environment.
Position Responsibilities
Adjunct faculty, part-time appointments, are expected to adhere to all policies and procedures expected of university employees. Adjunct faculty will:
  • Offer evidence of effective Student Intellectual Development activities
  • Demonstrate a commitment to meeting the academic responsibility requirements for all faculty (e.g., adherence to academic policies, participating in the collection of assessment data necessary for course and program evaluation).
  • Attend any College orientation sessions.
  • Develop and distribute a written course syllabus as outlined by university policy and College policy at the first course meeting.
  • Present course content as announced to students and as approved by the faculty.
  • Meet all assigned classes or make appropriate alternative arrangements for the class when an absence is unavoidable.
  • Schedule and maintain regular office hours (in-person or virtual) and be available to students.
  • Award academic credit based on the professional evaluation of academic performance.
  • Observe the policies and procedures of the department, College, and the University.
  • Administer student evaluations and any additional assessment instruments required by the University.
  • File an annual report that provides evidence of progress and involvement that is responsive to feedback and meets expectations of rank.

Required Qualifications
Successful candidates must have a master's degree and a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in the field of instruction. Please specify in the application portal which subject you are qualified to teach given these criteria.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous experience teaching undergraduate students and proficiency with instructional technology and Learning Management Systems (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard) are preferred.
