What are part-time Brown University students?

Part-time Brown University students are individuals who are enrolled in fewer courses than a full-time course load, typically taking less than four courses per semester. This option is usually available to students with special circumstances, such as health issues, family responsibilities, or work commitments. Part-time students pay tuition on a per-course basis and may have different access to campus resources and financial aid. Enrolling part-time can impact a student’s progress toward graduation and eligibility for certain programs, so it’s important to consult an academic advisor before choosing this option.

How do part-time students at Brown University balance coursework with other commitments, and what support is available to help manage this balance?

Part-time students at Brown University often juggle academic responsibilities alongside work, family, or other personal commitments. The university offers flexible scheduling, access to academic advisors, and resources like the Sheridan Center for Teaching and Learning to support time management and academic success. Many students find it helpful to communicate proactively with professors about their schedules and to connect with peer support networks on campus. Utilizing these resources can greatly ease the challenge of balancing multiple roles while pursuing a degree part-time.
