Niyam is seeking a System Administrator to join our team in support of our work with a federal client. This is a part-time position that requires on-site work in Newport News, VA. We offer competitive compensation. The System Administrator is responsible for the secure configuration, operation, maintenance, and support of the client's Environmental Management System (EMS) Web Portal. This role encompasses expertise in administering computer networks, system components, and associated IT systems supporting the EMS Portal, ensuring constant compliance with client IT Security Policies. The System Administrator performs critical backup operations, updates system components and software to the most recent client approved releases, supports cybersecurity compliance activities, provides system and component status information, and provides artifacts and documentation in support of compliance with monthly and quarterly security controls.
Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Configure, operate, and maintain the client EMS Web Portal in accordance with EMS configuration management plans and documentation.
  • Ensure the EMS Portal maintains at least 95% uptime availability for users.
  • Perform regular backups of the EMS Portal server and associated data, in accordance with client and EMS controls and documentation. Verify backup successful completion and integrity for each backup.
  • Store and handle EMS system and backup media in accordance with client and EMS security controls, procedures, and EMS Media Protection policies.
  • Maintain backup logs in accordance with client and EMS records retention policies.
  • Support transition activities including providing backup of all data on approved client media to the COR at contract expiration.
  • Assist with implementing and monitoring client security controls for the EMS Portal.
  • Pull and compile system component data, logs, metrics, artifacts, and documentation to support security compliance reporting and controls.
  • Support and provide assistance for system and network tests, conducted by client, using client testing techniques.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly compliance reports demonstrating system conformance with client IT security requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with FEDRAMP authorization requirements.
  • Support system and component auditing and logging capabilities meeting client requirements.
  • Ensure system and component configurations prevent unauthorized access, malicious activity, and disclosure of Sensitive Security Information (SSI) or Personally Identifiable Information (PII).
  • Assist with maintaining high-level system architecture maps and data flow documentation.
  • Support client's Zero Trust architecture implementation for the EMS Portal.

Requirements:
  • US Citizen with ability to obtain public trust.
  • Bachelor's Degree in in Occupational Safety or Occupational Safety, Environmental Management, or Environmentally related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in systems analysis or related roles.
  • Experience working in a government contracting or regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with federal information security and privacy concepts.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Knowledge of system administration principles, including secure configuration, access control, and system hardening for web portal applications.
  • Expertise administering computer networks, maintaining system components, and administering associated IT systems with on-premises environments and FEDRAMP authorized cloud environments.
  • Understanding of DHS and TSA IT Security Policies, including TSA MD 1400.3.
  • Ability to execute system security configurations based on ISSO guidance aligned with DHS and TSA IT security policies.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining physical and technical security controls in enterprise environments.
  • Knowledge of database platforms and web portal administration.
  • Understanding of secure backup, contingency plans, and incident response procedures, including secure handling and storage of system media on or offsite.
  • Ability to generate compliance reports and extract data in support of whole system and security audits and security control compliance.
  • Strong documentation, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred:
  • Industry certifications related to system administration or security.
  • Experience supporting compliance-driven or audit-focused environments.
