Employment Status: Regular/Part-time
FLSA Status: Exempt
Description: Coordinate all aspects of the assigned interscholastic sport; work cooperatively with all
personnel in maintaining a quality program within the policy framework of the school
district
Essential Functions:
• Ensure safety of students
• Promote intellectual, personal, and social development
• Promote the development of such skills as goal setting, self-motivation, cultivation of self-esteem, promotion of interpersonal relationships, leadership and problem solving
• Develop each participant's moral and social values
• Be responsible for all matters pertaining to the school, administration and coaching of athletic teams under his/her direction
• Shall be aware of and enforce all rules and regulations of the WBL, OHSAA, district athletic policies and Board of Education policies
• Promote the best interest in the total athletic program as it relates to the best interest of the students and welfare of the school district
• Conform to the athletic department policy and Board of Education policy
• Complete inventory report that includes the following information: quantity and condition, replacement items needed, repairs or reconditioning required and new equipment as needed
• Responsible for the conduct of contestants
• Plan practice and game sessions so that a coach is in the building or on the field at all times during play and/or practice sessions
• Assume responsibility for closing and locking all dressing rooms and gymnasium facilities after students have left
• Accompany teams in buses to and from all athletic contests where buses are used
• Provide the following information on all student athletes to the athletic director's office prior to the first day of practice: physical examination, student insurance waiver, emergency medical forms, players list or roster, waiver of acknowledgment of athletic injury and informed consent waivers
• Conduct a parent informational session before the season starts
• Responsible for the care of all equipment before, during and after each season
• Responsible for managers (number, conduct, selection, and duties of each)
• Keep a current and complete roster of players and submit to the Athletic Director
• Report all injuries to the trainer
• Report all misconduct or other unusual situation to the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director
• Attend all practices
• Be available for staff meetings and scouting assignments
• Conduct or assist with the off season conditioning program
• Supervise tryouts in cooperation with the Athletic Director and Building Principal
• Maintain a safe and clean locker room
• Attend rules interpretation meetings
• Assist in the preparation of facilities for all contests and practice sessions
• Schedule, plan and conduct all practice sessions and scrimmages
• Schedule team meetings to discuss pertinent information
• Provide information to media regarding the team
• Correspond with college and university personnel to assist athletes in the acquisition of athletic scholarships
• Work with trainer in assisting athletes in the care and prevention of injuries
• Assign lockers to athletes
• Communicate with classroom teachers to determine the achievement level of each athlete
• Participate in awards program by distributing awards to athletes
• Attend and participate in athletic booster club and/or support groups
• Evaluate athletes after each performance and at the end of each season
• Develop and enforce team and district athletic policies
• Distribute home and away uniforms
• Report or assign someone to report lineups, scoring plays, and other pertinent data of each game and/or meet to the local media
• Accept duties as assigned by Head Coach
• Assist the Athletic Director in purchasing equipment and supplies
• Recommend to Athletic Director scheduling possibilities
• Issue equipment and keep accurate records of same
• Collect all equipment at the end of the season
• Attend coaches meetings
• Schedule assistant coaches' meetings
• Instruct athletes in the proper use of body building equipment, training and nutrition
• Organize filming of matches, games and/or meets
• Schedule and conduct meetings to discuss future opponents
• Work with the Athletic Director in selecting a manager for invitationals and tournaments
• Condition and train all participants in the fundamentals of the sport
• Promote good sportsmanship and good citizenship
• Assist in obtaining suitable transportation, in conjunction with the Athletic Director, to all away meets, games and/or matches
• Work with the Athletic Director and other coaches in developing practice sessions when sharing facilities
• Present monthly practice schedule to Athletic Director
• Assist Athletic Director in the employment recommendation, evaluation, and reemployment of assistant coaches
• Assign duties and responsibilities to assistants
• Review and evaluate all matches, games and/or meets
• Perform duties with high moral and ethical conduct, i.e., no profanity, etc.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
• Serve as a role model for students and spectators in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
• Respond to routine questions and requests in an appropriate manner
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree (BA) or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• CPR certification
• BCII report and Pupil Activity Certificate
• Annual hazardous materials and bloodborne pathogens training
• Alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
• CPR certification
• Obtain all OHSAA required certifications

• Occasional requirement to lift, carry, push and pull various athletic equipment and supplies
• Occasional communication with parents when appropriate for the development of the student-athlete
