Contract Insurance Defense Associate
Location: Los Angeles, CA
Pay Rate: $75 to $90 per hour DOE
Job Type: Contract, Full-Time, Remote
LHH is partnering with a well-regarded boutique litigation firm seeking a Contract Insurance Defense Associate. The successful candidate will have 3+ years of experience in civil litigation, demonstrating expertise in prepping trial documents, pleadings/motions, discovery, document review, arbitration, and deposition experience.
Responsibilities
  • Draft demurrers and prepare responses to pleadings (high-volume, quick turnaround).
  • Conduct contract and statute analysis; draft research memoranda with clear, practical recommendations.
  • Draft, review, and revise legal documents including motions to dismiss, summary judgment motions, motions to strike, discovery requests/responses, and pretrial motions.
  • Manage case strategy collaboratively; track deadlines and deliverables; attend occasional in-person work sessions if local.
  • Support discovery (drafting/answering discovery; meet-and-confer correspondence) and hearing preparation as needed.
  • Appear for hearings, depositions, mediations, and other proceedings as required (frequency expected to be limited given part-time scope).
  • Communicate regularly with supervising attorneys and relevant stakeholders to keep matters moving efficiently.
Qualifications
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active California Bar and good standing preferred (required for demurrer-heavy pleadings practice)
  • Minimum 3 years of litigation defense experience with strong legal writing, research, and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in dispositive and procedural motion practice (e.g., demurrers, MSJs, oppositions)
