Location: Remote, U.S. Based; must be willing and able to work onsite in Washington State as required
Schedule: Part-Time, approximately 20 hours/week
Compensation: $90-$110/hour, depending on experience and relevant certifications
Position Overview:
REV is seeking an experienced Integration & API Architect to provide architectural leadership for enterprise interfaces, APIs, messaging, and integration platforms supporting a large-scale modernization initiative.
The consultant will establish integration standards, modernize legacy interfaces, define API frameworks, evaluate middleware and integration technologies, and ensure integrations are scalable, secure, maintainable, and aligned with enterprise architecture standards.
Responsibilities
  • Define and govern enterprise integration architecture standards.
  • Establish API frameworks, interface specifications, integration principles, and lifecycle practices.
  • Design and govern secure APIs, messaging frameworks, event streams, and service interactions.
  • Modernize legacy batch-file, point-to-point, and proprietary integrations using modern API and event-driven patterns.
  • Evaluate API gateways, middleware, messaging platforms, integration tools, and cloud capabilities.
  • Define orchestration workflows and message-mapping approaches.
  • Partner with security teams to implement Zero Trust, authentication, authorization, encryption, and secure communications.
  • Review vendor integration designs and technical proposals.
  • Ensure integration solutions meet scalability, reliability, performance, and maintainability requirements.
  • Support integration troubleshooting, defect triage, root-cause analysis, and production readiness.
  • Establish API naming, versioning, authentication, authorization, error-handling, and lifecycle standards.
  • Develop and maintain integration architecture diagrams, API specifications, interface documentation, and operational materials.
  • Collaborate with enterprise, security, data, application, infrastructure, and development teams.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, solution design reviews, and technical planning.
  • Mentor technical teams and support knowledge-transfer activities.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Bachelor's degree must include at least 12 semester hours or 18 quarter hours of computer science coursework.
  • Candidate must be able to provide documentation verifying the degree and specific computer science coursework completed if requested.
  • 7+ years of professional IT experience involving information technology analysis, system design, development, integrations, APIs, infrastructure, or related technical disciplines.
  • 5+ years of hands-on Integration Architecture, API Architecture, or comparable senior integration leadership experience.
  • Strong experience designing enterprise integration architectures.
  • Strong experience with APIs, REST services, messaging, event-driven architecture, and service-oriented architecture.
  • Experience with API gateways and modern integration platforms.
  • Experience modernizing legacy integrations and point-to-point interfaces.
  • Experience with API lifecycle management, versioning, authentication, authorization, error handling, and interface specifications.
  • Experience with integration patterns including ETL/ELT, messaging, event-driven pipelines, orchestration, and service-based integrations.
  • Strong experience with cloud technologies across Azure, AWS, and/or GCP.
  • Experience with serverless technologies such as Azure Functions, AWS Lambda, or comparable platforms.
  • Experience with Java, C#, NodeJS, Python, and/or comparable modern development technologies.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of Zero Trust, encryption, secure communications, IAM, authentication, and authorization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Must be comfortable working as an individual 1099 Independent Contractor.
  • Must be willing and able to work onsite in Washington State as required.
  • Must be able to complete required background screening, security training, confidentiality requirements, and system-access requirements.

Engagement Requirements
This is a part-time, approximately 20-hour-per-week 1099 Independent Contractor engagement.
The engagement is primarily remote; however, the consultant must be willing and able to report onsite in Washington State when required by the client/program.
