What is a part time after work job?

Part time after work jobs are employment opportunities that typically take place during evenings or after standard business hours, allowing individuals to work outside of their main 9-to-5 job or daytime commitments. These positions can range from retail and hospitality roles to remote customer service, tutoring, or gig economy work. They are ideal for those seeking extra income, flexible schedules, or experience in a new field while maintaining their primary responsibilities during the day.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in a part-time after-work position?

To thrive in a part-time after-work position, you typically need basic job-specific skills, time management abilities, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale systems, inventory software, or customer service tools may be required depending on the role. Reliability, flexibility, and strong interpersonal skills help individuals adapt to changing schedules and work effectively with team members and customers. These abilities ensure that part-time employees contribute positively, maintain productivity, and balance work with other commitments.

What are some common challenges faced by employees working part-time after regular work hours?

One common challenge for part-time after-work employees is balancing the demands of multiple commitments, such as a full-time job, family responsibilities, and personal time. Staying organized and managing energy levels is crucial to avoid burnout. Additionally, part-time evening roles may offer less direct supervision, requiring individuals to be self-motivated and proactive in communicating with team members. However, these positions often provide flexibility and the opportunity to build new skills or earn supplemental income.

Job description

Start Date: Late August
Location: Sherborn, MA
Compensation: $25โ€“$30 per hour, based on experience
Schedule: Mondayโ€“Friday, 2:00 PMโ€“6:00 PM
Guaranteed Hours: 20 hours per week

Overview / About the Family
A warm, active family in Sherborn is seeking a dependable, energetic part-time afterschool nanny for their two children, ages 6 and 11. Both parents work from home on most days but keep a hands-off approach โ€” they set clear expectations up front and then give their nanny the space to run the afternoon confidently. The right fit brings warmth, patience, and a good sense of humor, loves being outdoors, and knows how to keep kids engaged while gently reinforcing structure and good habits.

The nanny will arrive ahead of the children to handle a few household tasks, then be a steady, welcoming presence as the kids transition home from school. Afternoons include homework help, reading and math practice (especially with the younger child), library trips, outdoor play, and driving to local activities. The parents travel for work occasionally and will always give advance notice; on those occasions, a little added flexibility (around 30 minutes) is appreciated.

Benefits: one week paid vacation, 2 sick days, 2 personal days, 3 paid holidays, gas stipend for work-related driving

Responsibilities:

  • Arrive ahead of the children to complete light household duties, including laundry, dishes, tidying, and meal prep
  • Meet the children off the bus and provide a warm, steady presence during the afterschool transition
  • Support homework and reinforce reading and math, particularly with the younger child
  • Plan engaging afternoons โ€” library visits, outdoor play, and structured downtime
  • Drive the children to local afterschool activities
  • Handle light meal prep (simple chopping, putting a prepared item in the oven)
  • Manage the children's laundry and light organizing
  • Encourage the children to pick up after themselves
  • Run occasional local errands during downtime (e.g., a quick grocery pickup)

Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license required; own reliable vehicle preferred (gas stipend provided); parking available
  • Comfortable swimming with children
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willing to complete before the start date)
  • COVID-19 vaccinated
  • Warm, patient, energetic, and good-humored, with a love of the outdoors
  • Experience caring for school-age children
  • Spanish-speaking a plus

Upon submitting this form, you will be considered for any suitable positions, so there is no need to complete multiple applications.
