Job description

Part-Time Academic Tutor

Location: Carlsbad, CA 92008

Organization: Army and Navy Academy

Army and Navy Academy, a private boarding and day school for boys in grades 7–12, is seeking part-time academic tutors to help students strengthen their understanding of coursework, develop effective study habits, and build academic confidence. Current college students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.

Tutors provide scheduled, individual academic support to cadets assigned through the Academic Department. Assignments are based on student needs, tutor subject knowledge, and availability. Tutoring takes place on campus in Carlsbad.

Responsibilities
  • Help students understand course concepts, work through assignments, and prepare for quizzes and exams.
  • Reinforce organization, time management, and effective study skills.
  • Adapt explanations and practice activities to individual student needs.
  • Encourage independent learning and academic integrity.
  • Maintain accurate tutoring attendance and session records.
  • Communicate student progress and concerns to designated academic staff.
  • Maintain student confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
Qualifications
  • Strong academic preparation in one or more middle or high school subjects, such as mathematics, science, English, writing, history, or world languages.
  • Ability to explain concepts clearly and work patiently with adolescents.
  • Dependability, strong communication skills, and consistent availability for scheduled appointments.
  • College coursework in relevant subject areas preferred.
  • Previous tutoring, teaching, mentoring, or other experience supporting students preferred.
Schedule

Part-time hours coordinated with the Academic Department based on student assignments and tutor availability. Hours may vary according to program needs.
