Part Time - Academic Advisor
The Blinn College District is searching for a Part Time - Academic Advisor at our Brenham Campus.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities are listed below:
Job Summary
To provide individual and small group educational advising to students. This will include but is not limited to providing assistance in the areas of course planning, career exploration, transfer information, and academic and technical degree and certificate completion.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Delivers academic advice to prospective and currently enrolled students as well as their parents and other college personnel.
  • Develop educational plan of academic courses, which help students achieve their intended educational goal.
  • Assist currently enrolled students with identifying their educational and career goals to the extent the student can develop an educational plan to achieve their goal.
  • Review degree plans and advise students with academic, developmental and probationary concerns.
  • Maintain accurate record of student interactions.Work collaboratively with other advisors and staff in developing specialized programs for student's academic development.
  • Assist with registration and student service activities as needed.
  • Interact with parents and guardians of students while ensuring the students FERPA rights are protected.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/ Required Degree, License or Certifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 1-2 years of related experiences (student services, student affairs, or customer service).

Minimum Competencies
  • Computer literate; ability to learn and operate required computers systems at an intermediate level.
  • Strong analytical and organization skills combined with careful attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment.
  • Self-motivated and goal oriented, team player.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and complex long- and short-range concurrent planning.
  • Strong commitment to quality customer service.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of college records and student information.

Preferred Qualifications
2-3 years advising experience at the college level.
Preferred Competencies
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Banner Software, Degree Works.
Special Notes To ApplicantsThe Part-Time Academic Advisor may be scheduled to work up to 19 hours per week during peak summer and fall registration periods.
