Position Summary
Performs skilled/manual work in the care and maintenance of ground, turf, parks, and athletic playing fields. Work involves a full range of landscape and turf maintenance responsibilities. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Parks Foreman or Parks Manager
Essential Functions
  • Maintains various grounds, fields, and parks by performing mowing, weeding, tilling, raking, digging and other manual labor tasks
  • Prepares fields for athletic activities such as lining and raking
  • Maintains athletic fields, equipment, and recreation facilities by mowing, grooming, leveling, raking, weeding, install turf, etc.
  • Performs janitorial and custodial maintenance of recreational facilities, grounds and buildings to include restroom maintenance and trash disposal
  • Operates vehicles to carry materials to job sites; performs preventative maintenance functions on vehicles
  • Informs and directs public in the use of facilities as well as answer questions and provide routine information
  • Assists with Event setup/ teardown and day of event needs
  • Regular in-person attendance during City and department business hours, since face-to-face interaction and coordination of work with other employee, outside colleagues, residents, vendors and all immediate access to documents or other information located only in the workplace is required

Minimum Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of facilities maintenance functions
  • Knowledge of landscape maintenance and turf installation
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment to do related work
  • Knowledge of grounds keeping practices and principles
  • Ability to operate light equipment
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor under various weather conditions
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
  • Skill in the operation and preventative maintenance of equipment and related tools
  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Requires a valid State of Florida diver's license
  • Must be able to work at all City events

Supplemental Information
WORKING ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • The primary duties of this position are performed in an outdoor environment and may include exposure to inclement weather and other hazardous conditions.
  • Works around or in noise, dirt, dust, water, slippery surfaces, heights, confined areas, chemicals, electrical energy, moving parts, machinery, objects or vehicles.
  • This function will also involve the consistent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, walking, and the lifting, pushing, manipulation, and carrying of heavy objects up to 50lbs.
  • This function will also include the need to climb a ladder, traverse uneven terrain, climb stairs, etc.

Insurance
Depending on the plan selected, the City pays approximately 98% of employee's health insurance and contributes to a Health Savings Account.
Dependent coverage, dental, vision, and short term disability plans are available at an additional cost. Basic life and long term disability insurance is paid by the City.
Additional voluntary insurances are available such as: critical illness, accident, and hospital indemnity insurances etc. are available for an additional cost.
Retirement:
401A
The City contributes 5% automatically. An additional of up to 2.5% will be contributed if the employee elects to contribute to their individual 457. However, employee contribution is not required. Employee is full vested after five (5) years with partial vesting in years prior.
