Job description

Legal Assistant (Portland)


Maloney Lauersdorf Reiner PC is seeking an experienced legal assistant to join our team. MLR has a very active litigation practice, with an emphasis on personal injury, civil rights, and insurance coverage litigation. We are a relatively small team practicing in a casual and collaborative environment.


Because we are a relatively small team, our attorneys and staff are expected to exercise initiative and good judgment. Routine responsibilities will include formatting and drafting correspondence and pleadings, proofreading and editing, calendaring and case management, electronic filing of pleadings and other documents in state and federal trial courts in Oregon and Washington, data entry and document management, assisting attorneys with trial preparation and trial, and communicating with clients, opposing counsel, witnesses and the courts.  


Well-qualified candidates will possess some or all of the following experience, traits, and skills:   


·        2+ years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal supporting a litigation practice

·        Competency with MS Office and Adobe applications

·        Competency, or at least familiarity, with CM/ECF, Odyssey, and other electronic filing systems

·        Experience with e-discovery, ESI, and document management systems

·        Familiarity with federal, state, and local rules of court in Oregon and Washington

·        Exceptional attention to detail and strong proofreading skills

·        Strong organizational and document management skills

·        Solid interpersonal communication skills for developing and maintaining client relationships

·        Familiarity with trial presentation software and applications

·        Familiarity with basic insurance concepts and terminology
