Job description

Position Summary
The Cleveland office of Ogletree Deakins seeks an experienced workers' compensation paralegal to join its workplace safety and health practice. 3-5 years of experience in handling claims from the administrative phase through litigation and trial is required. Candidates should have experience with all aspects of the workers' compensation process including requesting medical records, preparing IME background letters, filing continuances and appeals through ICON, and related Industrial Commission activities. Candidates should also have experience with preparing court pleadings, handling discovery requests, and providing trial support. Experience with OSHA is a plus.
Essential Functions
  • Manage a caseload of Ohio workers' compensation defense files from the administrative phase through litigation and trial
  • Request, organize, and review medical records and related claim documentation
  • Prepare IME background letters and coordinate independent medical examinations
  • File continuances, appeals, and related submissions through ICON, and manage other Industrial Commission of Ohio filing requirements
  • Track and calendar hearing dates, appeal deadlines, and other statutory timeframes before the BWC and Industrial Commission
  • Prepare court pleadings, discovery requests and responses, and related litigation documents
  • Provide trial support, including preparation of exhibits and coordination of witnesses and evidence
  • Communicate with clients, medical providers, and Industrial Commission staff regarding claim status and case developments
  • Assist attorneys with workplace safety and health (OSHA) matters as needed
  • Maintain organized case files using firm case management systems

Requirements
  • 3-5 years of experience as a paralegal handling Ohio workers' compensation claims, from the administrative phase through litigation and trial
  • Demonstrated experience with ICON filings and Industrial Commission of Ohio procedures
  • Experience preparing court pleadings and handling discovery requests
  • Trial support experience
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and case files
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management software
