Legal Assistant

Location: Independence, OH
Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:30 AM - 4:45 PM (1-hour lunch)
Pay: $26.00/hour
Assignment Length: Minimum 6 weeks
Work Environment: Onsite

Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Legal Secretary to support a busy legal practice focused on insurance defense matters. This position will provide direct administrative support, manage legal calendars and deadlines, coordinate filings, and assist with document review using AI-powered legal technology tools.

Responsibilities
  • Manage attorney calendars, court dates, depositions, hearings, and deadlines
  • Track and maintain critical legal timelines, including expert witness deadlines
  • Prepare, scan, upload, and organize legal documents and records
  • Process medical records, billing records, and case-related documentation
  • Review AI-generated reports for accuracy prior to attorney submission
  • Perform electronic filings and navigate court filing systems
  • Coordinate communications and scheduling activities
  • Monitor email notifications and update master calendars accordingly
  • Support document management and data transfer between systems
  • Maintain accurate time tracking and administrative records
Qualifications
  • High school diploma required
  • 1-2 years of administrative, legal support, or office experience preferred
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
  • Experience with Dropbox or other document management systems
  • Comfortable learning and utilizing AI-powered software tools
  • Experience with Dragon or dictation software is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and prioritization skills
