Job Overview
The Seasonal Float Fabricator contributes to the construction of floats, props, and other scenic elements for Macy's iconic events, including the Thanksgiving Day Parade, Spring Flower Shows, 4th of July Fireworks, Santaland, and other seasonal elements.
What You Will Do
  • Work as a carpenter, welder, fabricator, or painter on floats and other studio projects.
  • Participate in installations, set-ups, and take-downs for various events.
  • Assist with parade set-up and other necessary tasks during events.
  • Contribute to the installation and implementation of special projects, such as Holiday Displays, Marquee Elements, and Flower Shows.
  • Collaborate with the Production Manager and Shop Floor Supervisor on project engineering methods, planning, and production.
  • Fulfill other tasks and duties as assigned by the director of production and/or production manager.

Skills You Will Need
Carpentry, Welding, Painting, or Sculpting: Knowledge or experience in one of the following: carpentry, welding, painting, or sculpting is required
Technical Skills: Ability to work as a carpenter, welder, sculptor, or painter on floats and other studio projects
Reading Scale Drawings: Ability to read scale drawings and use scale models
Multitasking and Collaboration: Ability to multitask and collaborate with multiple artists and builders
Finish Work: Ability to perform "professional level" finish work on all projects
Welding and Rigging: General knowledge of welding/metal fabrication and general rigging is a plus
Electrics, Plumbing, and Hydraulics: Knowledge or experience in electrics, plumbing, and hydraulics is a plus

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills; ability to draft reports and other communications; present to management and internal and external business partners; interpret technical documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent; draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • This position requires heavy lifting, constant moving, standing, and reaching with arms and hands. Involves standing for at least two consecutive hours, lifting at least 50 lbs. stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders. May involve reaching above eye level. Requires close vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Ability to work some weekends and holidays, including Thanksgiving Eve and Thanksgiving Day
