Job description

Summary: With a Safety-First mind-set, directs the activities of the production of stock to the paper machine to maximize daily production tonnage output at the lowest possible cost assuring that all efforts are made at all times to sustain continuity of operations with minimum down time.
Responsibilities:
  • Safety-First approach in all areas of the mill. Enforces strict safety standards and practices. Be aware of existing safety hazards and ensure any issues are corrected. Maintain a high level of housekeeping within the respected area.
  • will manage all aspects of the Pulper, detrashing system, screens, cleaners, disk thickener, clarifier and all ancillary equipment to support the operation of the area.
  • Interacts with Water Reclamation and Paper Machine teams to deliver fiber in quality and quantity.
  • Assures the Stock Prep equipment and systems are maintained for maximum efficiency.
  • Leads continuous improvement projects for area of responsibility.
  • Remain continually aware of paper machine quality requirements and work closely with Production Management, Technical Manager. Ensure all quality/consistency checks are completed.
  • Works closely with maintenance group to prioritize weekly maintenance needs and coordinates preventative maintenance activities.
  • Maintains equipment through assuring equipment basic care rounds are completed and operator maintenance is performed as required.
  • Works with maintenance manager and planning group to plan and execute maintenance outages.
  • Responsible for maintaining and managing department budget.
  • Works with the Project Engineer and Maintenance group to develop long-term capital projects.
  • Champions employees to continually look for ways to improve processes.
  • Reviews the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Works closely with vendors to assure systems are in working order and optimize the system for optimal cost/efficiency.
  • Develops personnel and ensures completion of job family training and testing. Works with training specialist to ensure personnel are on track with testing and certifications.
  • Coach, Develop personnel. Ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Partners with Human Resources to develop solutions and implement necessary processes in personnel related matters

Education and Experience:
  • Associates Degree in Science or Engineering or related field (Paper Science or Chemical Engineering preferred) Education and experience may be combined to meet requirement.
  • 3 + years Supervisory Experience
  • 5 + years working in a Paper Mill (Experience in stock prep required)

WORKING CONDITIONS/Requirements
  • Wear personal protective equipment as required.
  • May have exposure to environments high in humidity and heat
  • May have exposure to outdoor elements when traveling between facilities
  • May have exposure to Industrial/manufacturing equipment
  • May have exposure to loud noise
  • May be required to bend, stoop, climb stairs, ladders, walking standing.
  • May be required to work in confined spaces.
  • May be required to lift 30 lbs.
  • May be required to sit, administrative duties will be preformed in an office environment.
  • Onsite presence is required
  • This position will be part of weekend management rotation.
