Position Overview
We are seeking a Panel Designer to join our team. This role will be responsible for supporting the operation and growth of the company’s UL508A panel shop through the design, build, testing, and commissioning of industrial control panels. This position works closely with engineering, operations, and field teams to ensure panels are built safely, accurately, and in compliance with company and UL standards.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design electrical control panels, including layouts, schematics, and associated documentation.
  • Develop and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), wiring diagrams, and panel documentation.
  • Support and participate in panel fabrication, assembly, and wiring activities.
  • Ensure panel designs and build processes comply with UL508A standards and company quality requirements.
  • Perform Factory Acceptance Testing, troubleshooting, and validation prior to shipment or startup.
  • Assist with field commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities as needed.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and technicians to support project execution and schedules.
  • Maintain organized project files, master files, UL Labels, revision control, and manufacturing documentation.
  • Coordination with UL Inspections
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement, standardization, and increased shop efficiency.
  • Support inventory tracking and component selection for panel builds.
  • Support construction team on estimating I&C
  • Promote and follow all company safety procedures and electrical safety standards.
Qualifications
Minimum: 
  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate’s degree or technical certification in electrical technology, industrial automation, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in industrial control panel design, fabrication, or a closely related electrical field.
  • Working knowledge of UL508A standards and industrial control panel construction requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
Preferred:
 
  • Experience with electrical CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN, or equivalent).
  • Familiarity with PLC and VFD systems and their integration within control panel environments.
  • Prior experience in a UL-listed panel shop or industrial electrical environment.
  • Field commissioning or startup experience with industrial control systems.
  • MTR Certification
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of UL508A industrial control panel standards and compliance requirements.
  • Knowledge of electrical panel design principles, including component selection, layout, and wiring practices.
  • Ability to produce accurate panel layouts, schematics, BOMs, and supporting documentation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers, project managers, field teams, and technicians.
  • Ability to troubleshoot panel wiring, control circuits, and electromechanical components.
  • Ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet project deadlines in a fast-paced shop environment.
  • Skill in maintaining organized project documentation, revision control, and manufacturing records.
Work Environment
  • Industrial panel shop and office environment.
  • Work is performed primarily in a shop setting with exposure to electrical equipment, tools, and moderate noise levels.
  • May require occasional field visits for commissioning and startup activities.
  • Work may require lifting up to 50 pounds; standing for extended periods; and exposure to noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
  • Adherence to all electrical safety standards and PPE requirements is expected at all times.
