Job description

Job Title: Paint Process Engineer
Job Description

This role serves as a key technical contributor supporting liquid paint manufacturing processes, with a strong focus on robotic, solvent-based painting operations. You will develop, improve, and sustain safe, efficient, and repeatable paint processes while partnering closely with operations, maintenance, and design engineering teams. The position offers hands-on ownership of critical paint processes and provides direct impact on product quality, manufacturing cost, and production readiness at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across liquid paint processes to improve cycle times, reduce scrap and downtime, and optimize equipment, tooling, and energy usage.
  • Provide hands-on process and tooling troubleshooting to resolve production issues and improve process stability, throughput, and repeatability.
  • Develop, update, and maintain process documentation, work instructions, and standard work to support consistent execution across shifts and teams.
  • Support bill of materials (BOM) and routing development and maintenance to ensure accurate manufacturing execution and clear cost visibility.
  • Analyze process failures, perform structured root cause analysis, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Design and evaluate part fixtures and tooling to maximize density, efficiency, and quality outcomes in robotic and manual paint applications.
  • Train, develop, and technically guide robot programmers and process technicians on setup, processing parameters, troubleshooting methods, and best practices.
  • Recommend, justify, and support implementation of capital equipment, including defining spare parts lists and establishing preventive maintenance frequencies.
  • Partner with design engineering on new project start-ups, supporting smooth transitions from development into stable, high-volume production.
  • Collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, and quality teams to drive robust, safe, and reliable paint processes.
  • Promote and maintain a safe, clean, and orderly work environment while performing responsibilities with minimal supervision.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence within a high-volume manufacturing environment.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering required, with a preference for Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant liquid paint manufacturing experience.
  • Understanding of robotic, solvent-based painting processes.
  • Experience with Fanuc robotic systems and robotic paint applications.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to perform root cause analysis and implement practical solutions.
  • Process mapping skills and experience documenting and standardizing manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications, including Microsoft Office, with the ability to work with tools such as pivot tables.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects, organize work effectively, and prioritize multiple tasks in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams while maintaining high quality and attention to detail.
  • Ability to lead and guide robot programmers and process technicians in a production setting.
  • Capacity to adapt and learn quickly within a dynamic manufacturing environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with robotic programming, including working with multiple robots in an integrated paint system.
  • 3D CAD experience for designing or reviewing fixtures, tooling, and process-related components.
  • Hands-on experience with paint systems and liquid paint applications in a production environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including the ability to influence, coach, and develop technical staff.
  • Experience driving cultural or process shifts in a manufacturing setting, particularly around continuous improvement and automation.
  • Technical and functional expertise with paint processes, including an understanding of equipment, materials, and process controls.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively across functions and organizational levels.
  • Ability to balance speed, quality, and risk when solving problems and implementing process changes.
Work Environment

The role is based in a high-volume manufacturing facility that supports the production of powersports vehicles and related components for both recreational and commercial applications. The site operates as a critical hub for off-road vehicle production, partnering closely with engineering, quality, and operations teams to drive continuous improvement, automation, and production efficiency. You will work in and around robotic paint cells, liquid paint systems, and associated fixtures and tooling, with exposure to solvent-based painting operations and automated equipment, including multiple robots. The environment emphasizes innovation, operational excellence, and scalable manufacturing practices, and you will collaborate daily with cross-functional teams focused on quality, throughput, and safety. Standard business software tools, including Microsoft Office, are used regularly for analysis, documentation, and reporting.
