What is a Packing job?

A packing job involves preparing products for shipment by placing them in boxes, sealing them, and labeling them correctly. Packers ensure that items are packaged securely to prevent damage during transportation. They may also inspect products for quality, organize inventory, and follow safety guidelines. Packing jobs are common in warehouses, factories, and retail fulfillment centers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Packing position, and why are they important?

To thrive in a Packing role, you need strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and a basic understanding of warehouse safety protocols, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with packing equipment, barcode scanners, and inventory management systems is beneficial. Reliability, time management, and the ability to work effectively as part of a team are standout soft skills. These qualifications ensure orders are packed accurately, efficiently, and safely, contributing directly to customer satisfaction and operational productivity.

What are typical work shifts and environments like for packing positions?

Packing roles are often based in warehouses, distribution centers, or manufacturing facilities, where the environment can be active and fast-paced. Shifts may vary, with some employers offering daytime, evening, overnight, or weekend schedules to meet production and shipping deadlines. Team members typically work together to organize, prepare, and package products for shipment, and may rotate between different tasks to keep the workflow efficient. The position generally involves being on your feet for extended periods and handling both lightweight and heavier items, so physical stamina is helpful. Many employers provide thorough on-the-job training and opportunities to advance into supervisory or inventory-related positions over time.

About SEEK Careers/Staffing

Sourced by ZipRecruiter

SEEK was founded in 1971 by Carol Ann Schneider, CPC, SPHR, a Grafton, Wisconsin resident. The name SEEK was derived from a combination of initials in Carol’s family. It was a tradition that names derived in such a way would bring success to that person or business. So, from Carol’s home, SEEK assignment employees were sent to serve the temporary needs of Ozaukee County business people. The business grew and was eventually incorporated in 1975. The Grafton office expanded from Carol’s home to several other buildings in town before finally settling in their current location on Opportunity Drive in Grafton in 1997. Currently, there are 19 total branch offices with 16 located throughout Wisconsin and a recent acquisition has expanded SEEK’s portfolio to 3 branch offices in the Twin Cities.
