Job description

OVERVIEW

You are an experienced engineer with experience in a fast-paced, complex manufacturing operation.  You have a proven track record and a strong mechanical aptitude, excellent analytical thinking and problem solving skills and a drive for continuous improvement.  You enjoy a challenge and have the energy and vision to recognize and implement improvement opportunities both independently and as part of a team with members of all levels of an organization.   

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifying and implementing improvements in packaging equipment throughput, quality, safety and efficiency
  • Working closely with line operators to understand problems, perform troubleshooting and develop solutions together
  • Use strong continuous improvement skills to enhance system reliability and identify/implement productivity and cost improvements including new technologies.
  • Develop and improve procedures and instructions to minimize packing line setup and changeover time/cost.
  • Show thorough understanding of the interactions between machine, materials, methods, environment, and people to provide robust operating systems.
  • Provide key technical support in capital projects and new product and packaging material testing/start-ups.  Ensure safety and quality aspects of the equipment meets company requirements
  • Minimize packaging material scrap, product scrap and product giveaway.
  • Deputise for the Department manager when required.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager. 

WORK EXPERIENCES

  • 3+ years of experience in packaging engineering, packaging development, quality engineering, or manufacturing.
  • A demonstrated ability to select and apply sound engineering practices and principles to the design and development of high volume consumer products packaging.
  • Strong background and proven results in Leading Continuous Improvement efforts through the application of Lean Manufacturing and 6 Sigma Activities.
  • Experience in Packaging Controls
  • Supervisory experience is a distinct advantage

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • B.S. degree (or higher) in Engineering, Packaging Science or related field from an accredited college/university.

ESSENTIAL CAPABILITIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES)

  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Recognized technical abilities and practical experience with strong capabilities in the following areas: Theory/functionality of manufacturing systems and unit operations; Continuous improvement; Food science/chemistry or packaging science; Statistics and analytical methods; Process measurement and control; Mechanical aptitude; Troubleshooting; Ability to understand and apply general engineering principles
  • Manage multiple projects with overlapping tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lead diverse teams to challenge the status quo to achieve operational improvements
  • Demonstrated ability to identify problems, develops solutions, and quickly implements their strategy.
  • Strong organization skills, attention to detail and follow through to resolve any outstanding issues.
  • Proficient skills specifically in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook are required.
  • Fundamental understanding of food standards, safety and sanitary regulations and good manufacturing practices.

SALARY RANGE/COMPENSATION 

  • $73,000.00 to $121,500.00
