Job description

Shift 1 (United States of America)
As a Machining Operator, you'll help keep daily manufacturing operations running safely and predictably by producing parts that meet specification and by supporting consistent shop-floor execution. You'll join Schenck, a Coperion brand - part of Hillenbrand, in Sabetha, Kansas, where we support industrial manufacturing through disciplined production and continuous improvement. Your work will strengthen quality, equipment reliability, and on-time performance. You'll grow your skills through standard work, hands-on learning, and team-based problem-solving, while contributing to a culture where people Win as One and Make It Matter.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Operate manual, semi-automated, and automated machining equipment by following standard work and documented instructions to produce components that meet defined specifications.
  • Complete basic machine setup tasks you're trained on by confirming correct configuration, tooling, and readiness before production starts to reduce scrap and downtime.
  • Inspect finished parts using measurement tools such as calipers and gauges by recording results and verifying conformance to specifications to support quality and traceability.
  • Identify defects and separate nonconforming material by labeling, documenting, and escalating concerns through defined procedures to prevent quality escapes.
  • Monitor equipment performance during runs by watching for abnormal operation, drift, or malfunctions and reporting issues promptly to protect safety, quality, and throughput.
  • Perform routine cleaning, lubrication, and basic preventive maintenance tasks by following site practices and documenting completed work to support reliable operation.
  • Maintain an organized, safe work area by completing 5S and housekeeping tasks and by moving or staging materials using proper handling methods to support production flow.

TEAM:
  • You'll work closely with operators, leads, quality, and maintenance partners to share clear updates, resolve issues quickly, and support smooth shift handoffs. You'll contribute to a respectful, inclusive environment where different perspectives are valued, and where disciplined execution supports Coperion and Hillenbrand's long-term success.

THE EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED:
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to do hands-on, repetitive work on a shop floor while staying focused on safety and quality.
  • Ability to follow written work instructions and standard procedures, including required paperwork or production tracking.
  • Basic math skills for counting, measuring, and recording accurate numbers.
  • Ability to learn and use measuring tools, like calipers and gauges, to check part dimensions.
  • Mechanical awareness to notice when a machine doesn't sound or run right, pause work when needed, and report concerns.
  • Ability to complete routine cleaning and basic preventive tasks as trained, including housekeeping and 5S.
  • Dependable attendance and clear communication so you can work well with others and support daily production schedules.

If you're interested in joining the team, submit an application to be considered.
