Job description

HiFyve is hiring a AV Design Engineer in the Commercial Audio Visual Integration industry in Plymouth, MN!

Salary: $80,000 - $120,000

Shift: M-F 8-5

Location: Plymouth, Minnesota

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop complete and accurate AV system designs that align with customer requirements, project scope, and industry best practices.
  • Create detailed technical documentation including system schematics, signal flow diagrams, equipment lists, rack elevations, and infrastructure requirements.
  • Prepare design packages utilizing platforms such as D-Tools, AutoCAD, Visio, Bluebeam, or similar software.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to define technical scope and support proposal development during the pre-sales process.
  • Participate in customer and internal meetings to provide technical expertise and ensure project expectations are clearly understood.
  • Recommend AV technologies and equipment based on system performance needs, manufacturer standards, and project budgets.
  • Coordinate with project management, installation, programming, and commissioning teams to ensure designs are accurate and ready for execution.
  • Review project documentation, submittals, and shop drawings for technical accuracy and completeness.
  • Maintain current knowledge of AV technologies, networking concepts, and industry trends to support high-quality system designs.

Education Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Audio/Visual Technology, Information Technology, or a related field preferred
  • Equivalent industry experience may be considered in place of formal education

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 3+ years of experience in AV system design, engineering, or related technical roles
  • Strong knowledge of commercial AV technologies including video conferencing systems, distributed audio/video, control systems, and DSP signal flow
  • Experience with control system platforms such as Crestron, Extron, AMX, or Q-SYS
  • Proficiency with D-Tools, AutoCAD, Visio, Bluebeam, or similar design software
  • Familiarity with networking concepts including IP addressing, switching, and VLANs within AV environments
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to customer sites as needed
  • AVIXA CTS, CTS-D, CTS-I, or manufacturer certifications are preferred
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset
