Job description

Company
Gantri is the first digital manufacturer for design. We enable any designer or brand to create high-quality, sustainable design products 10x faster with no minimums. We manufacture at our Digital Factory in California on-demand at industrial-scale efficiency and ship directly to the end customer. Gantri is the most awarded design manufacturer in America.
Role
We are seeking a Senior Product Design Engineer who is a highly motivated, creative, and relentless problem-solver with deep experience and a proven track record of driving products from concept through mass production. You will play a critical role on Gantri's product design engineering team, translating industrial design concepts into high-quality, manufacturable products with global manufacturing partners.
In this role, you'll design and create the foundational building blocks of Gantri products-shaping them for our next-generation digital manufacturing platform. You'll ensure our products are functional, scalable, and aesthetically pleasing while helping to bring bold ideas to life.
This role is highly collaborative and hands-on, spanning product design, documentation, project management, and vendor engagement. The ideal candidate is self-driven and thrives on solving complex problems and takes full ownership of technical challenges from early design through production release.
Responsibilities
  • Product Design & Development:
  • Translate industrial design concepts into mechanical parts, assemblies and detailed hardware specifications to develop Gantri's products using our next generation digital manufacturing processes.
  • Own mechanical architecture, detailed part design, system integration, and documentation
  • Prototype, test and validate new designs and concepts.
  • Design for various mid to high volume manufacturing processes for oversea and domestic production
  • Drive DFM/DFA, tolerance analysis, Thermal, FEA analysis, and cost optimization
  • Support prototyping, EVT, DVT, PVT builds and production ramp
  • Drive reliability testing and validation methods
  • Lead design reviews and mentor junior engineers when needed
  • Continuous Improvement: Diagnose and resolve design, quality, and manufacturing issues. Analyze issue reports against sales data to prioritize high-impact problems. Conduct Root cause analysis and FMEA on returned products to identify root causes and validate solutions.
  • Documentation & Manufacturability: Develop and maintain production-ready 3D and 2D documentation with appropriate tolerances and GD&T. Manage Engineering documentation, BOMs, and change control (ECO/ECN) within PDM and PLM systems. Produce detailed assembly instructions for customer facing and production utilization, SOPs, and technical specifications.
  • Project Management: Oversee new product inventory projects, defining requirements and coordinating timelines. Support exploration of new product categories, ensuring design and manufacturing alignment.
  • Vendor Management & Sourcing Support: Interface with domestic and overseas manufacturing partners and Gantri's remote Sourcing Manager. Assist with vendor selection and provide technical expertise on sourced components
  • Design Optimization: Define design parameters and optimize product performance for Gantri's digital manufacturing platform.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred).
  • 7+ years of professional product design and development / mechanical engineering experience
  • Expert-level proficiency in SolidWorks (surfacing, complex assemblies, drawings)
  • Proven track record in solving complex engineering problems and technical challenges
  • Extensive experience designing for high, mid, and low volume manufacturing processes: injection molding, FDM, Resin and Metal 3D printing, CNC machining, stamped metal, extrusions, castings, and laser cutting
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with industrial designers and cross-functional teams
  • Working knowledge and experience with simulation and analysis methods (Thermal, FEA, CFD and statistical tolerance analysis)
  • Comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and mechanical fundamentals, including materials, manufacturing, assembly, mechanisms, structures
  • Exceptional ability to develop clear, accurate, and production-ready documentation
  • Practical experience managing data and workflows within PDM and PLM systems
  • Proficient in developing reliability test plans and procedures for mechanical and environmental testing: Shock, Drop, Vibration, IPXX testing, Thermal shock/cycle, humidity, and UV.
  • Highly Effective in collaborating with overseas manufacturing partners and supporting sourcing processes.
  • Experience with FMEA and continuous improvement practices.
  • Strong organization and project management skills with attention to detail.

Desired Skills
  • Knowledge of sustainable materials and their application in product design
  • Experience writing specifications and RFQs for electronic components (PCBA, batteries, cables)
  • Experience with regulatory and compliance requirements (UL, FCC, CE, etc..)
  • Familiarity with furniture or non-lighting product hardware.
  • Background in lighting product design.
  • Experience with process optimization in a design or manufacturing context.

Why Gantri

  • Play a pivotal role in shaping the building blocks of Gantri products.
  • Drive innovation on our next-generation digital manufacturing platform.
  • Advance sustainable design practices in real-world production.
