The New Product Development (NPD) engineer manages, develops, and participates in all phases of new product designs, processes, and technology development. Products are designed per customer and OEM specifications, and per market demand with expected 1–2-year high-volume manufacturing implementation. The NPD engineer uses research, engineering principles, and cross-functional activities including all other functional groups in the organization to evaluate costs, lead prototype part manufacturing, and product transfer to manufacturing. NPD Engineers specialize in a particular type of product material or in products to become subject matter experts.

Position Charter

The Engineer II applies advanced knowledge of a specific technical subject matter to support TSMD’s technical teams with testing, process and project development, problem solving, and continuous improvement.

Reporting Relationships

The Engineer II reports to their Department or Engineering manager.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

• Applies advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices in a specific technical area.

• Leads projects as assigned by engineering manager and identifies project opportunities independently that align with goals and metrics.

• Documents work effectively and presents results to internal and external cross functional groups.

• Develops and maintains procedures, work instructions, and training materials to support technical area.

• Leads cross functional teams on projects and initiatives.

• Applies problem solving, SPC, and other engineering fundamentals to support investigations.

• Identifies and drives continuous improvement projects, drives safety and environmental improvements.

• Supports onboarding and training of engineering interns, technicians, and Engineer I personnel.

• Supports technical discussions with suppliers and customers in specific technical area of focus.

• Understands and adheres to all safety requirements. Communicates identified risks to leadership and assists in resolution.

• Completes all 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) standards to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.

• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.

• Contributes to culture through alignment with company values and code of conduct. Maintains a positive attitude, displays enthusiasm for assigned tasks, and communicates effectively and professionally with team members.

• Other related duties.

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering field or equivalent.

• Master’s degree preferred. Skills and Qualifications

• Advanced knowledge of technical focus area.

• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.

• Demonstrated competence in structured problem solving, SPC, lean principles, and FMEA.

• Computer literacy required.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift 40 pounds on a regular basis.

• Must be able to stand and walk for long periods of time.

• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) as defined by process.
