Job description

The Industrial Technology Student Intern will gain practical, supervised experience in a manufacturing/industrial laboratory environment related to the student's career objectives. The internship is designed to connect classroom learning CORs with new and continued students taking INDT classes while allowing the student to earn academic credit toward an associate degree.
The student will work under the direction of an INDT faculty. The internship should provide meaningful exposure to manufacturing equipment troubleshooting and fixing, technical problem-solving, workplace safety, communication, teamwork, and continuous improvement. This position is only available to students enrolled in the JCAMP cohort at our Franklin location.

The student intern will:

  • Follow all college courses safety policies, procedures, and required training.
  • Participate one day a week for 5 hours in INDT/ADMF laboratory classes appropriate to the student's skill level.
  • Apply learned knowledge to real-world manufacturing scenarios.
  • Observe and participate in teaching production, maintenance, quality, automation, engineering technology, or other activities related to the INDT280 course outline of records.
  • Use appropriate tools, equipment, technology, and documentation under faculty supervision.
  • Help identify and analyze basic technical or operational problems.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and problem-solving activities when appropriate.
  • Collect, organize, and communicate technical information such as SDS file.
  • Work effectively with faculty, high school students, and other members of the organization.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, dependability, punctuality, and appropriate workplace behavior.
  • Ask questions and seek clarification when performing unfamiliar tasks.
  • Maintain a record of activities, skills learned, problems encountered, and solutions considered.
  • Participate in discussions with the faculty member regarding progress and workplace experiences.

The student is expected to:

  • Complete 70 total internship hours over 14 weeks on Monday from 8-12 and 1-2:25 pm (Sep. 7 is no class or work)
  • Arrive on time and maintain reliable attendance.
  • Follow all safety requirements and workplace policies.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and respect for supervisors and coworkers.
  • Maintain confidentiality of company information.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors and faculty.
  • Complete required internship documentation and assignments.
  • Demonstrate the ability to think critically, analyze information, and apply technical knowledge.
  • Take increasing responsibility for assigned tasks while recognizing when assistance is needed.
