About the Role:
This role is responsible for preparing simple to intermediate-level mechanical, piping, and civil drawings to support gas distribution pipeline projects. The position supports engineering, construction, and external stakeholders by producing accurate design deliverables, providing facility data, and maintaining up-to-date mapping and records. Work is performed under general supervision with opportunities for independent judgment and initiative.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare simple to intermediate-level piping and mechanical fabrication drawings.
  • Develop civil site plans, grading plans, pipeline alignment drawings, and profile drawings for gas distribution projects, including gate stations, meter and regulator stations, and related pipeline appurtenances.
  • Produce construction-ready drawings in alignment with company standards, engineering specifications, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate assigned projects and maintain awareness of schedules and deliverable requirements.
  • Prepare drawing review packages and provide ongoing project status reports.
  • Assist internal and external customers by supplying drawings, pipeline data, and facility information.
  • Conduct facility data research to support modifications to existing installations.
  • Provide gas facility and mapping information to engineering, construction, and operations personnel.
  • Respond to data and mapping requests from external stakeholders, including engineering firms, Blue Stakes, and government agencies.
  • Interpret and incorporate survey data, field notes, and as-built documentation into design drawings.
  • Perform work under the direction of a supervisor and senior designers while exercising initiative and independent judgment as appropriate.
  • Maintain effective oral and written communication with supervisors, team members, and customers.
  • Contribute to a positive, professional workplace by demonstrating respect, teamwork, and adherence to company conduct standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Work Conditions:
  • Overtime, weekend, and/or holiday work may be required to meet project deadlines.
  • Prolonged use of computer-aided design systems, including keyboard and mouse.
  • Travel to company facilities for field visits, including occasional overnight stays.
  • Outdoor work in varying weather conditions (hot, cold, dry, or wet).
  • Ability to walk long distances and navigate steep or ungraded terrain.

Minimum Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
  • Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) principles and software.
  • Ability to read and interpret facility drawings and alignment sheets.
  • Understanding of standard drafting practices and industry terminology.
  • Basic knowledge of property rights-of-way, surveying principles, and mathematics (algebra, geometry, and trigonometry).

Demonstrated Skill:
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, AutoCAD Plant 3D, and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.
  • Familiarity with Vehicle Tracking, Autodesk Vault, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel), and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Experience with CADWorx P&ID is beneficial but not required.

Ability to:
  • Read and understand gas distribution pipeline drawings and alignment sheets.
  • Demonstrate entry-level understanding of Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) and their role in construction packages.
  • Interpret preliminary and post-construction field notes, surveys, and survey book information.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Possess strong attention to detail related to design drawings and technical data.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision while meeting project deadlines.
  • Maintain mobility, manual dexterity, and visual acuity required for drafting and fieldwork.
  • Maintain professional communication and customer service standards.

Requirements:
  • Associate degree or certificate in Computer-Aided Design and Drafting from an accredited institution or equivalent professional experience.
  • 0-2+ years of related professional drafting or design experience.
  • Regular attendance and ability to work an approved schedule.
  • Entry-level proficiency in design and drafting with the ability to meet reasonable project deadlines.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Compliance with all company policies, including Business Ethics and Compliance requirements, and applicable industry regulations (e.g., FERC and DOT).
