Department: Child Development: Overnight Camp
Employment Type: Seasonal - Full Time
Location: North Woods Overnight Camp
Reporting To: Angelo Firenze
Compensation: $500 - $650 / week
Description
Position Title: Camp Driver / Transportation Support Staff
Reports to: Summer Operations Director
Position Summary
The Camp Driver plays an important role in helping camp operations run smoothly and safely throughout the summer. This position supports camper and staff transportation needs, assists with check-in and check-out logistics, and helps maintain camp vehicles in accordance with YMCA and ACA safety standards. Drivers must be dependable, organized, flexible, and committed to creating a safe and positive experience for campers, families, and staff.
Key Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities
Transportation & Driving
• Safely operate camp vans and camp vehicles in accordance with all YMCA, ACA, and state driving regulations
• Learn and follow all ACA transportation and vehicle safety policies
• Complete required vehicle checks and report any maintenance concerns immediately
• Transport nurses, staff, campers, and supplies as assigned
• Support scheduled and unscheduled transportation needs throughout the summer
• Assist with town runs and transportation to Wolfeboro as needed
• Assist with food service and supply pick-ups as needed
Staff Van Runs
• Complete scheduled van rides to and from Wolfeboro
• Typically provide one van ride before the dinner bell and one after dinner
• Help ensure all passengers follow camp transportation expectations and safety procedures
First Sunday Check-In Day Responsibilities
• Prepare vans for camper arrivals, including removing or adjusting seats as needed
• Transport staff chaperones during arrival days to the MA pick up location
• Assist with camper check-in logistics
• Help transport luggage and camper belongings back up to camp
• Coordinate medication check-in with the Health Center team
• Deliver all luggage to the Great Hall
• Reload van seats and clean vehicles if needed after luggage drop off
Second Saturday Check-Out Responsibilities
• Prepare vans for departure day transportation
• Load all camper luggage and belongings at the Great Hall
• Assist with unloading luggage for families
• Assist with the returning of camper medications from the Health Center team
• Transport staff back to camp following departures
• Clean vans and reload seats if needed for holdover weekend
Additional Expectations
• Maintain professionalism and patience with campers, families, and staff
• Help keep vehicles clean, organized, and fueled
• Communicate clearly with camp leadership regarding schedules and transportation needs
• Be flexible and willing to assist with additional operational tasks as needed

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
Qualifications
• Over 21 years of age
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record
• Comfortable driving large passenger vans
• Ability to safely manage transportation logistics in a camp environment
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Ability to lift luggage and equipment as needed
• Must meet all YMCA and camp driving requirements and complete required trainings
Physical Requirements
• Ability to sit and drive for extended periods
• Ability to lift and move luggage, equipment, and supplies
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Schedule Notes
This role is busiest during camper check-in and check-out days, but transportation support is needed throughout the summer based on camp operations and staffing needs.
