Shift: 7:00 PM to 5:00 AM Sunday thru Thursday Friday and Saturday OFF!!
The Transportation Manager (DOT) is responsible for overseeing all overnight transportation operations to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant delivery of products to customers. This role supervises night dispatchers, coordinates dispatch activities, tracks delivery compliance, monitors DOT Hours of Service compliance, completes required safety reporting, and serves as the primary leadership contact for transportation operations during overnight hours. The Transportation Manager (DOT) ensures that deliveries depart on time, safety standards are maintained, ensures seamless communication to customer, and any operational issues are resolved quickly to minimize disruptions. Key Responsibilities of Night Transportation Manager (DOT) Transportation Operations
  • Oversee nightly transportation operations including dispatch, route departures, and driver support.
  • Ensure all routes are dispatched on time and CDL A drivers have the information and resources needed to complete deliveries safely and efficiently.
  • Monitor delivery progress and provide support for drivers encountering delays, mechanical issues, or store delivery challenges.
  • Coordinate with warehouse operations to ensure trailers are loaded and ready for scheduled departures.
  • Communicate operational updates to day shift leadership and provide detailed shift pass down notes.
  • Provide customer facing reporting.
Supervision and Support
  • Provide leadership and supervision for night shift dispatchers.
  • Address CDL A driver questions, concerns, and operational issues in real time.
  • Promote a positive work environment focused on teamwork, accountability, and safety.
  • Assist with driver scheduling, call-offs, and coverage as needed.
  • Provide accountability and behavioral changes through coaching and discipline.
Safety and Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with FMCSA regulations, including DOT Hours of Service requirements.
  • Monitor ELD activity and driver logs to identify and prevent potential violations.
  • Reinforce safe driving practices and company safety policies.
  • Respond to accidents, incidents, or injuries occurring during the night shift and initiate proper reporting procedures.
Communication and Coordination
  • Serve as the primary transportation contact during overnight operations.
  • Communicate with dispatch, warehouse leadership, maintenance, and store contacts to resolve issues quickly.
  • Provide clear documentation of operational issues, delays, or incidents.
Performance Monitoring
  • Track and report key operational metrics such as on-time departures, service issues, accidents, and Hours of Service compliance.
  • Identify trends or recurring operational challenges and work with leadership to develop solutions.
Continuous Improvement
  • Assist in implementing process improvements to enhance efficiency, safety, and driver satisfaction.
  • Support training initiatives and reinforce company policies and procedures.

Transportation Manager (Nights) DOT Requirements
Required
  • 3-5 years of experience in transportation, logistics, or fleet operations
  • Experience managing CDL drivers in a distribution environment
  • Experience supervising or leading teams
  • Strong understanding of DOT and FMCSA regulations
  • Ability to work night shifts
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with transportation management systems and ELD platforms
  • Intermediate to Advanced Excel skill set.
Preferred
  • Experience leading within a collective bargaining unit workforce.
  • Knowledge of PeopleNet
