Job description

Job Title: Router FLSA/Grade: Exempt/Salary

Reports to: Transportation Manager Department: Transportation

Position Summary:

The Router is responsible for the execution, direction, and coordination, of all Transportation/Routing matters within the company. The main objective is to save money by reducing cost and by effectively shipping and backhauling all product within a smooth-running operation, by implementing techniques, processes and procedures while maintaining excellent communications, time management and the training of employees by performing the following duties.

The position of Router is exempt from the overtime provisions of the Federal Fair Labor Standards Act and shall not be entitled to overtime compensation for hours worked more than 40 in any one work week.

The Router shall be accountable and supervised by the Transportation Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Routing all deliveries in a timely fashion.
  • Adheres to driver’s hours of service regulations.
  • Meeting all delivery windows.
  • Maximizing fuel efficiency.
  • Updating all delivery windows as it becomes necessary.
  • Assigning all drivers consistently to routes.
  • Cross train all routes.
  • Setting up and maintaining all new customer accounts in Roadnet and into the standard routes from Form.
  • Clear routes daily from day before.
  • Communicate Telematics and of Mobilecast Routes daily to the Dispatcher.
  • Update Roadnet and blocks off low bridges and no “commercial traffic” roadways, if not flagged on updated maps.
  • Enter and maintain cube information in the Roadnet for all trucks.
  • Print, review and communicate daily reports.
  • Daily laptop/web confirmation.
  • Maintain permanent and daily truck assignments.
  • Complete daily route sheet and dispatch notes and email to all team members.
  • Order Entry, Order Lookup, Transfer, Item Inquiry, Routing, Paperwork Print, etc.
  • Forecast and evaluate customers and routes; work with sales department and management to increase route efficiencies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
