We are seeking a highly organized and analytical Transportation Planner / Route Coordinator to join our Transportation team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring efficient delivery operations, optimizing routes, supporting drivers, and maintaining compliance with DOT regulations.

Position Summary

The Transportation Planner / Route Coordinator is responsible for planning, optimizing, and managing daily delivery routes to maximize efficiency, reduce transportation costs, and maintain outstanding customer service levels. This role works closely with transportation management, drivers, warehouse operations, and customer service teams to ensure timely and accurate deliveries.

The ideal candidate will have experience using routing software such as Roadnet or Omnitracs, possess strong analytical skills, and thrive in a fast-paced logistics environment.

Key ResponsibilitiesRoute Planning & Optimization
  • Develop and maintain efficient daily delivery routes using Roadnet, Omnitracs, AS400, and related routing software.
  • Analyze route performance and identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce mileage, and lower transportation costs.
  • Balance routes to maximize equipment utilization and driver productivity.
  • Adjust routes as needed to accommodate customer requests, traffic conditions, weather events, equipment issues, and operational changes.
  • Monitor route efficiency and recommend process improvements.
Transportation Operations
  • Coordinate daily dispatch and routing activities to ensure on-time departures and deliveries.
  • Work closely with warehouse supervisors, transportation managers, drivers, and yard personnel to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Monitor route execution and proactively resolve service interruptions.
  • Support driver communication regarding route changes, delivery issues, and customer requests.
  • Assist in managing delivery schedules and equipment utilization.
Compliance & Reporting
  • Ensure routes comply with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations and DOT Hours-of-Service requirements.
  • Review transportation metrics and generate operational reports.
  • Maintain accurate routing, delivery, and transportation records.
  • Assist with route audits, transportation analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support compliance with company safety and transportation policies.
Customer Service Support
  • Ensure delivery schedules align with customer expectations and service commitments.
  • Work with customer service teams to resolve delivery concerns and service-related issues.
  • Communicate route changes and operational updates to internal departments.
QualificationsRequired
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in transportation, logistics, dispatching, route planning, fleet operations, or distribution.
  • Experience using routing software and transportation management systems.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask and make decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred
  • Experience with Roadnet, Omnitracs, AS400, or similar transportation software.
