Position Summary: 

The Overnight Resident Assistant, reporting directly to the Director of Nursing, supports residents in maintaining their dignity, independence, and overall quality of life by providing personal care assistance, companionship, and encouragement in daily activities. This position plays a vital role in promoting the physical, emotional, and social wellbeing of residents through compassionate care, effective communication, and proactive engagement in community life. Resident Assistants work closely with the care team to monitor health status, support individualized care plans, and ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming living environment. By fostering positive relationships with residents, families, and staff, this position contributes to a culture of respect, trust, and comfort within the community.

Essential Functions: 

  • Assist and provide direction to residents regarding their personal care needs, which include but are not limited to, grooming, hygiene, dressing, nutrition, etc.
  • Answer signal lights, bells, or intercom system to determine residents' needs using a proactive approach. 
  • Take and record temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration rates, and food and fluid intake and output, as directed.
  • Transport residents or assists residents with walking along with turning or repositioning residents alone or with assistance.
  • Change bed linens, run errands, direct visitors, and answer telephone.
  • Assist with laundry and housekeeping duties.
  • Assist residents to and from dining room as needed and assist with meals.
  • Encourage and assist residents to participate in activities.
  • Listen to and understand the problems of residents and reports observations immediately to the care team as needed. 
  • Promote the physical, personal, and emotional wellbeing of each resident and strive to maintain the ultimate goal, which is to return the resident to their maximum level of self-care and independence, when possible. 
  • Understand the resident's Advance Directives and follows their wishes.
  • Ensure effective communication is being utilized by community staff with the residents' families concerning residents' care, encompassing their physical, personal, and emotional wellbeing.
  • Work well with others and take direction from management, as well as taking initiative with the capability to engage in conflict intervention and resolution for residents, families, employees, and others as needed. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • One year of experience as a resident assistant within a senior living community or healthcare setting is preferred. 
  • CPR or BLS certification preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in common digital tools and applications, including Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Excel, Word), web-based platforms, electronic health record systems, and any HR-related systems as applicable.

Working Conditions: 

  • This position may need to walk or stand for extended periods and move throughout the community, resident apartments, and other areas of the community.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, as well as climb or balance. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively and identify/interpret written information.  
  • This position may need to lift up to fifty (50) pounds independently, and up to 200 pounds with assistance. 
  • Individuals in this position are required to follow all infection prevention and control protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when necessary, to ensure the health and safety of residents, staff, and visitors.
  • This role involves actively participating in all staff activities aimed at fostering teamwork, unity, and morale. The individual will contribute as a collaborative team player, working alongside colleagues to create a supportive and cohesive work environment. 
  • Individuals in this position are required to stay current on all training and ongoing education initiatives. They are expected to actively pursue self-improvement and embrace opportunities for continuous learning to enhance their skills and knowledge.
