Job description

Company Summary

This is an agile, high-growth machine tool and manufacturing equipment distributor based in Ohio. Operating as a tight-knit, boutique team, the company prides itself on efficiency and a unique culture that avoids the bureaucratic overhead of larger competitors. Led by the owner, the organization is currently scaling its internal operations to transition from a founder-led sales model to a robust, high-performing sales team. They offer an aggressive, performance-based environment where top-tier talent can achieve significantly higher earnings than the industry standard.

Job Summary

The Sales Engineer is a high-impact hunter role focused on new business development within the Dayton, Columbus, and Cincinnati markets. Reporting directly to the owner, you will be responsible for identifying and closing opportunities for machine tools. This role is approximately 70% field-based and 30% phone-based, requiring a self-motivated professional who can manage the entire sales cycle—from technical part processing and blueprint reading to final negotiation and closing.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively prospect and hunt for new clients within the designated territory, with a heavy emphasis on Montgomery County (Dayton).
  • Read blueprints and evaluate manufacturing processes to determine the best equipment solutions (distinguishing between lathe and mill applications).
  • Maintain a high volume of cold calling and in-person visits to build a consistent pipeline.
  • Utilize HubSpot to track all prospecting activities, manage customer data, and forecast sales accurately.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for new accounts, ensuring technical requirements are met and expectations are managed.
  • Engage in rigorous product and industry training to stay competitive in the machine tool market.

Requirements

  • Proven ability to read blueprints and a solid understanding of part processing for machine tools.
  • Demonstrated success in capital equipment, fabrication, or machine tool sales.
  • High level of grit and persistence; comfortable handling rejection and performing high-volume outreach.
  • Experience using CRM tools (HubSpot preferred) for daily activity tracking.
  • Ability to manage a 70/30 field-to-office split and travel regionally as required.
  • Ability to hit the ground running with minimal ramp-up time and a desire to reach elite earning tiers

Preferred Requirements

  • Certified Machine Tool Sales Engineer (or a willingness to complete the 3-month company-provided program).
  • Direct experience in machine tool sales is highly preferred, though fabrication and capital equipment backgrounds will be considered.

Compensation & Benefits

This is a highly commission-driven role designed for high performers. Long-term potential of $250,000 – $300,000+

Structure Options:

  • Draw Option: $60,000 – $70,000 negotiable draw + 30% commission.

  • Straight Commission: 40% commission from day one.

  • Full benefits package:
    • 100% employer-paid health insurance (including family coverage)
    • HSA contributions ($125/month single / $250/month family)
    • 401(k) with 4% employer match (after employee contributes 5%)
    • $150,000 company-paid life insurance
  • All standard business-related expenses are covered.

Location & Travel

  • Primary Territory: Dayton / Montgomery County, OH.
  • Preferred Dayton area, but open to Cincinnati or Columbus residents who can effectively cover the Dayton market.
  • Primarily local/regional day travel. Minimal overnight travel (approx. one night per month for major industry events like IMTS).
