 Join Our Team: Evening Safety & Outreach Specialist 

At the Brattleboro Food Co-op, safety, community outreach, and exceptional service go hand in hand. As our Evening Safety & Outreach Specialist, you will play a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming, and supportive environment for our staff, shoppers, and local community.


This unique role balances loss prevention and physical safety with proactive compassionate outreach-ensuring our store remains a vibrant and secure hub for everyone.


 Key Responsibilities 

Safety & Loss Prevention
  • Perform regular safety inspections and store walk-throughs to identify common hazards and prevent loss.
  • Conduct continuous security tours across store departments, entryways, and parking areas to maintain a strong, approachable presence.
  • Act as a key point of contact and first responder during on-site emergencies, building inspections, and emergency service visits.
  • Diffuse tense or potentially dangerous situations with calm professionalism, diverting conflict whenever possible.
  • Maintain detailed, unbiased logs of store incidents, trespass notices, and shoplifting occurrences; routinely review and archive security footage for investigations. 
Community Outreach & Customer Service
  • Deliver exceptional, courteous customer service to internal teams, shoppers, and community members.
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with local outreach clients and connect individuals in need to regional community resources.
  • Set up and manage seasonal outreach supplies and respond to outreach assistance calls promptly.
  • Assist shoppers who appear confused or apprehensive, ensuring a comfortable shopping environment for all. 
Teamwork & Store Support
  • Collaborate closely with department managers to develop loss prevention strategies and address store hazards quickly.
  • Communicate effectively with leadership regarding department priorities, daily tasks, and scheduled shifts.
  • Provide light support with basic facilities maintenance and janitorial tasks as needed to keep the store running smoothly.










Requirements

What We're Looking For

Experience: Minimum of 2 years in security, loss prevention, physical security, social services, military, police, or community outreach.


Certifications: OSHA 10-Hour certification (minimum); First Aid/CPR training is a plus.


Skills & Qualifications:

  • Proven ability to safely diffuse unstable or high-stress situations.
  • Strong blend of authority, confidence, and empathy.
  • Tech-savvy: Comfortable with computers, Google Workspace, email, and digital logbook systems.
