Job description

Job Summary The Collection System Manager is responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and repair of the South Burlington wastewater collection system, including gravity and forcemain sewers, pump stations, and related infrastructure. This position also provides backup coverage at the two Wastewater Treatment Facilities. Examples of Duties Ensures the efficient and effective operation of the wastewater collection system, minimizing overflows and blockages.

Ensures efficient operation, cleanliness and maintenance. Ensures compliance with State and Federal water quality regulations and standards and South Burlington ordinances. Provides input on plans required by regulations and City ordinances.

Conducts activities like cleaning, televising, and repairing wastewater lines and related infrastructure, data collection and GIS updates. Operates the City's Vactor trucks to prevent and remove blockages. Maintains accurate records of operations, testing and maintenance activities, and prepares reports as required for Superintendent and/or regulatory agencies.

Performs major and minor equipment maintenance as necessary. Identifies deficiencies and upgrades needed for the Capital Improvement Plan (CIP). Provides input on CIP development.

Supports the coordination of activities between the Water Quality staff and other Divisions and Departments within the city and performs other tasks or functions necessary to accomplish City and Department goals and objectives. Completes tasks using appropriate safety protocols and personal protective equipment. Tracks/summarizes work completed on work orders.

Minimum Required Qualifications High school diploma. Four years of relevant experience in the operation and maintenance of collection systems and pumpstations and/or experience with the operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment, preferably plumbing and electrical equipment, or any equivalent combination of training, education and experience. Minimum of a Vermont Grade 1 DM-Domestic Wastewater license.

Must possess a valid driver's license. A valid Vermont Class B CDL license with a tanker endorsement required or ability to obtain within six months of employment. Supplemental Information Demonstrated ability to work independently under the administrative direction of the Water Quality Superintendent.

Demonstrated ability to understand and execute VT State discharge permits and compliance requirements. Demonstrated ability to collect varied types of information and data and to report said information effectively. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.

Demonstrated ability to establish effective working relationships with employees and the public.
