Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a licensed Hearing Instrument Specialist (HIS) to join our growing practice as we open four new clinic locations across San Diego County. This hybrid role blends clinical hearing healthcare with consultative sales, making it ideal for a professional who thrives in both patient-facing counseling and results-driven environments.

The HIS will spend two days per week at one of our clinics in San Diego, Carlsbad, Murrieta, and Chula Vista. The remaining three days will be spent at home. This role is instrumental in establishing our presence at each new location, building patient relationships, and driving hearing aid adoption through expert consultation.

Note: Schedule may be adjusted based on patient volume and clinic launch timelines.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical & Patient Care

  • Counsel patients on hearing loss diagnosis, treatment options, and hearing aid technology best suited to their lifestyle and budget
  • Perform hearing aid fittings, programming, real-ear measurements, and follow-up adjustments
  • Develop individualized treatment plans and maintain thorough patient documentation in the EMR system
  • Provide ongoing aural rehabilitation support and patient education

Sales & Business Development

  • Drive hearing aid sales through consultative selling techniques that prioritize patient outcomes
  • Meet or exceed monthly and quarterly revenue targets across all assigned clinic locations
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of prospective patients through community outreach, physician referral programs, and follow-up campaigns
  • Collaborate with marketing to execute local promotions, open house events, and community hearing screenings at each new clinic
  • Track and report on key performance indicators including conversion rates, average selling price, and patient retention

Clinic Operations & Growth

  • Support the launch and ramp-up of four new clinic locations, ensuring each meets operational and patient volume benchmarks
  • Represent the practice as the primary clinical presence at satellite locations, building trust within each local community
  • Coordinate with front office staff on scheduling, inventory management, and patient flow optimization
  • Maintain compliance with all state licensing requirements and infection control protocols

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Active California Hearing Aid Dispenser (HAD) license in good standing
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in hearing aid dispensing, fitting, and patient counseling
  • Demonstrated track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets in a clinical hearing care setting
  • Proficiency with hearing aid programming software (e.g., Noah, manufacturer-specific platforms)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a genuine passion for patient care
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between San Diego County clinic locations daily
  • Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems and standard office technology

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hearing Science, Communication Disorders, or related field
  • Board Certification in Hearing Instrument Sciences (BC-HIS)
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred given patient demographics
  • Experience opening or launching new clinic locations
  • Familiarity with major hearing aid manufacturers (Phonak, Oticon, ReSound, Starkey, Widex, Signia)
  • Experience with real-ear measurement (REM) and best-practice verification protocols

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Competitive base salary commensurate with experience, plus uncapped commission on hearing aid sales
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401(k) with company match
  • Paid time off, holidays, and continuing education allowance
  • CE/license renewal reimbursement and professional development opportunities
  • Salary: 70,000 - 95,000 based on experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods during patient appointments
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to handle hearing aids and small components
  • Ability to travel locally between clinic sites across San Diego County (up to 80 miles round trip)
  • Clinical office environment with moderate noise levels during testing procedures
