To thrive as an OTC Clerk, you need attention to detail, basic math skills, and knowledge of over-the-counter (OTC) products, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management software, and barcode scanners is typically required. Strong customer service, communication, and organizational skills help you effectively assist customers and maintain accurate records. These abilities are crucial for ensuring efficient transactions, regulatory compliance, and a positive customer experience in a retail pharmacy setting.

What is an OTC clerk?

OTC clerks, or Over-The-Counter clerks, are retail employees who assist customers in purchasing non-prescription medications and health-related products. They typically work in pharmacies, drugstores, or supermarkets with a pharmacy section. Their duties include helping customers find over-the-counter products, answering basic questions about their uses, maintaining product displays, and managing inventory. OTC clerks are not pharmacists, so they cannot provide medical advice, but they play a key role in customer service and store organization.
