Position Summary
The Pharmacy Shipping Technician is responsible for preparing, packaging, verifying, and shipping prescription medications in accordance with pharmacy policies, regulatory requirements, and safety standards. This role ensures that medications are accurately matched to patient orders, packaged to maintain product integrity, including temperature‑sensitive items, and shipped using the appropriate service. The Shipping Technician also supports inventory activities, may assist with filling tasks as needed, and maintains a clean, organized, and compliant work environment.
Education amp; Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be licensed (unrestricted) and registered as a Pharmacy Technician or be willing to apply for a temporary registration as a Pharmacy Technician Trainee in the state of employment.
- Basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Detail‑oriented with the ability to multitask effectively.
Essential Functions amp; Responsibilities
- Shipping amp; Packaging
- Scan medication barcodes to verify that paperwork, medications, and patient file information in the pharmacy system are accurate and active.
- Prepare and package pharmaceutical products using appropriate materials to prevent damage and maintain integrity, including temperature‑controlled packaging when required.
- Review patient delivery instructions and select the appropriate shipping service based on patient preferences when specified.
Fulfillment amp; Inventory Support
- Assist the fulfillment department with full inventory counts, cycle counts, and removal of out‑of‑date products for proper documentation and return to the manufacturer.
- Fill prescribed medications using the correct NDC number and quantity with a Kirby dispensing system when needed, placing medications in appropriately sized containers.
- Verify patient label, NDC number, and quantity for accuracy before submitting prescriptions to the Pharmacist for final review.
Quality, Safety amp; Compliance
- Maintain clean equipment and ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all pharmacy policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to shipping, packaging, and medication handling.
