Job Description
Manager, Human Performance & Operational Excellence
Responsible for driving the implementation of Human Performance strategies across Southern Company Gas (SCG). This position focuses on Human Performance & Operational Excellence in an operational environment by reducing error, learning from events/normal work, strengthening defenses, and improving reliability and safety. The Human Performance Manager will own the Human Performance Strategy and manage the planning, coordination, and execution of Human Performance practices that improve operational safety, efficiency, and culture. The manager leads a team and collaborates with internal partners to identify risks, reduce recurring incidents, and implement systemic improvements through cross-functional solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Own and manage the execution of Human Performance strategies across all SCG operational functions.
  • Facilitate HP workshops, training and event reviews/investigations (proactive and post-event) of major incidents, near misses, and recurring issues to identify root causes and drive timely solutions.
  • Lead a team focused on establishing strategy and frameworks for all HP initiatives including performance improvement and coordinate with Data Analytics, Technology, Innovation, Training, and Process Integration.
  • Promote a continuous improvement mindset across the organization, aligning Human Performance practices with business and safety goals.
  • Collaborate with change management and training teams to update and implement revised processes and procedures.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders across departments to drive alignment, accountability, and cultural change.
  • Develop team capabilities and coach team members on effective practices for performance improvement.
  • Lead the HP digital strategy overseeing content development of the HP website to drive awareness and engagement for progress reporting, stakeholder updates, and post-initiative reviews to assess impact and apply feedback.
  • Contribute to the creation and upkeep of a centralized business process documentation system to ensure accuracy and accessibility.

Qualifications:
Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Management, Project Management, or a related field
  • 3-5 years of experience in process improvement, analytics, or operations management
  • Knowledge of safety or operational excellence methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and teams
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience managing performance-focused projects and driving organizational change
  • Understanding of Human Performance and change management principles

Preferred:
  • Master's degree in Business Administration or a related discipline
  • Background in regulated or safety-critical industries such as energy, utilities, or transportation
