What is an order management system?

An Order Management System (OMS) is a digital platform used by businesses to track sales, orders, inventory, and fulfillment processes. It helps manage the entire order lifecycle, from receiving and processing orders to shipping and customer communication. OMS solutions are commonly used in retail, e-commerce, and wholesale industries to streamline operations, reduce errors, and improve customer satisfaction. By integrating with various sales channels and backend systems, an OMS enables businesses to efficiently handle orders and inventory across multiple locations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an order management system specialist?

To thrive as an Order Management System (OMS) Specialist, you need a strong understanding of supply chain processes, order fulfillment, and data analysis, often backed by a relevant degree or experience in logistics or business operations. Familiarity with OMS platforms (such as Oracle, SAP, or Manhattan Associates), ERP systems, and proficiency with data management tools are typically required. Excellent problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help specialists coordinate efficiently across departments and resolve issues quickly. These abilities ensure seamless order processing, accurate inventory management, and a high level of customer satisfaction.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working with order management systems, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals working with Order Management Systems (OMS) often encounter challenges such as ensuring data accuracy across multiple channels, managing high order volumes during peak periods, and integrating the OMS with other enterprise software like inventory and shipping platforms. Addressing these challenges typically involves developing strong attention to detail, maintaining clear communication with cross-functional teams (such as sales, warehouse, and IT), and staying updated on system upgrades or best practices. Proactively troubleshooting issues and collaborating closely with stakeholders can help streamline workflows and minimize disruptions.

Job description

Fastly helps people stay better connected with the things they love. Fastly's edge cloud platform enables customers to create great digital experiences quickly, securely, and reliably by processing, serving, and securing our customers' applications as close to their end-users as possible - at the edge of the Internet. The platform is designed to take advantage of the modern internet, to be programmable, and to support agile software development. Fastly's customers include many of the world's most prominent companies, including GitHub, Yelp, Paramount, and JetBlue.
We're building a more trustworthy Internet. Come join us.
Posting Open Date: 8/11/26
Anticipated Posting Close Date*: 11/11/26
*Job posting may close early due to the volume of applicants.
Order Management Manager
Every signed contract at Fastly passes through one critical checkpoint before it becomes revenue: Order Management. We're looking for an experienced Order Management Manager to be the senior hands-on expert that manages that process: taking signed contracts, validating everything for completeness and accuracy, and moving each opportunity to Closed-Won with data that's right the first time. Reporting to the Director of Revenue Transformation, you'll be a true right hand: bringing structure and organization to how the work gets done day to day, and setting the standard for data integrity and fidelity. As a public company, our order data underpins invoicing, revenue recognition, sales compensation, and the metrics we report to investors, so the details matter here, and so does seeing how they connect to the bigger picture. If you take pride in zero-error execution and love building order out of complexity, we'd love to meet you
What You'll Do:
  • Lead the day-to-day execution of order management, setting priorities, keeping work moving, clearing exceptions, and driving month/quarter-end close readiness in close partnership with the Director
  • Serve as the senior reviewer on contract-to-CRM validation - verifying line items, subscription dates, quantities, and billing terms against signed contracts, and giving the final quality sign-off before opportunities move to Closed-Won
  • Represent order management in cross-functional interactions and handoffs with Sales, Sales Ops, Deal Desk, Billing, and Revenue Accounting, and partnering with Business Systems to automate the work
  • Serve as a point of escalation and subject-matter expert on order exceptions, opportunity revisions, bookings calculations, and order issues
  • Help shape how the process runs: designing process improvements, and maintaining the documentation, checklists, controls, and operational metrics that make data completeness, accuracy, and fidelity non-negotiable

What We're Looking For:
  • 5+ years of experience in Order Management, Quote-to-Cash, or Deal Desk at a B2B SaaS or technology company leveraging Salesforce; ideally in a lead, or final-reviewer capacity where your sign-off carried weight
  • Comfortable leading through influence rather than authority. You've earned trust as the go-to person on a process, and you raise the people around you through clear perspectives, thoughtful feedback, and consistent standards
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a genuine commitment to data completeness, accuracy, and fidelity. You catch what others miss and understand why it matters downstream
  • Highly organized and process-driven. You bring structure, documentation, and a reliable operating cadence to the work around you, and others come to depend on you for it
  • Ability to see the big picture: you understand how your work ripples across the broader order-to-cash process and the teams downstream of it, and you surface process gaps, with a recommendation, before they become problems

We'll be super impressed if you have experience in any of these:
  • Working in a public company or SOX-compliant environment with audit-ready controls and documentation
  • Supporting data governance or master data management initiatives
  • Driving or co-leading process improvement and automation initiatives that measurably reduced manual work and error rates
  • Helping scale or build an order management or quote-to-cash process through a period of high growth, reorganization, or system migration

Work Hours:
  • This position will require you to be available during core business hours.

Work Location(s) & Travel Requirements:
This position has one opening and can be hired in the following preferred office locations:
  • San Francisco, CA
  • New York, NY

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.
This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.
Pursuant to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance and the Los Angeles Fair Chance Initiative for Hiring Ordinance, we will consider for employment qualified applicants with arrest and conviction records.
Salary:
The estimated salary range for this position is $133,200.00 to $159,840.00.
Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.
This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly's equity and discretionary bonus programs.
Benefits:
We care about you. Fastly works hard to create a positive environment for our employees, and we think your life outside of work is important too. We support our teams with great benefits that start on the first day of your employment with Fastly. Curious about our offerings?
We offer a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance. Family planning, mental health support along with Employee Assistance Program, Insurance (Life, Disability, and Accident), a Flexible Vacation policy and up to 18 days of accrued paid sick leave are there to help support our employees. We also offer 401(k) (including company match) and an Employee Stock Purchase Program. For 2026, we offer 12 paid local holidays, 12 paid company wellness days.
Why Fastly?
  • We have a huge impact. Fastly is a small company with a big reach. Not only do our customers have a tremendous user base, but we also support a growing number of open source projects and initiatives. Outside of code, employees are encouraged to share causes close to their heart with others so we can help lend a supportive hand.
  • We value diversity. Growing and maintaining our inclusive and diverse team matters to us. We are committed to being a company where our employees feel comfortable bringing their authentic selves to work and have the ability to be successful -- every day.
  • We are passionate. Fastly is chock full of passionate people and we're not 'one size fits all'. Fastly employs authors, pilots, skiers, parents (of humans and animals), makeup geeks, coffee connoisseurs, and more. We love employees for who they are and what they are passionate about.

We're always looking for humble, sharp, and creative folks to join the Fastly team. If you think you might be a fit please apply! A fully completed application and resume or CV are required when applying.
