Job description

TechFlow is seeking an experienced Database Engineer / Oracle Database Administrator (DBA) to support a mission-critical DoD software development and modernization program in Montgomery, AL. This program provides software development and technical support services to sustain, enhance, and optimize a critical customer system through secure, scalable, and maintainable software solutions.
The Database Engineer/DBA will be responsible for the administration, security, performance, and lifecycle management of enterprise Oracle databases supporting mission-critical applications. This role will ensure database environments remain secure, highly available, and optimized while supporting Agile software development and DevSecOps practices. The successful candidate will work closely with software engineers, DevSecOps engineers, system architects, testers, and program leadership to support database modernization initiatives and maintain the integrity, availability, and performance of critical data assets.
Key Responsibilities
  • Install, configure, administer, patch, upgrade, and manage the lifecycle of Oracle database environments.
  • Monitor database performance, availability, and health, proactively identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks and operational issues.
  • Optimize database performance through tuning, indexing strategies, query optimization, and capacity planning.
  • Implement and maintain database security controls, including user access management, encryption, auditing, and compliance with DoD cybersecurity requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and regularly validate comprehensive backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures to meet Government Recovery Point Objective (RPO) and Recovery Time Objective (RTO) requirements.
  • Design, implement, and maintain database schema changes using version-controlled migration scripts integrated with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Ensure database deployment scripts are automated, repeatable, defect-free, and environment agnostic.
  • Maintain configuration management documentation and version control for all database configurations and settings.
  • Support end-to-end traceability of database requirements through implementation, testing, and documentation.
  • Collaborate with software development teams to design efficient database structures and support application modernization initiatives.
  • Support ETL processes, data integration activities, and maintenance of database metadata and data dictionary documentation.
  • Participate in troubleshooting production issues and implementing continuous improvements to database operations.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational standards for security, quality, documentation, and configuration management.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of Oracle Database Administration experience supporting enterprise environments.
  • Active DoD 8140/8570 IAT Level II baseline certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ or equivalent).
  • Extensive experience installing, configuring, patching, upgrading, and administering Oracle databases.
  • Experience developing and managing version-controlled database migration scripts integrated with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong knowledge of Oracle database performance tuning, optimization, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience implementing database security hardening, encryption, auditing, and Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) compliance.
  • Experience designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining enterprise backup and recovery strategies.
  • Experience supporting Oracle databases hosted in cloud environments, including AWS.
  • Familiarity with ETL processes, database integration, and data dictionary documentation.
  • Experience working within Agile software development and DevSecOps environments.
  • Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Active Secret Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting U.S. Air Force or other Department of Defense software programs.
  • Experience with AWS database services and cloud-native database architectures.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automated database deployments.
  • Experience supporting high-availability and disaster recovery database architectures.
  • Knowledge of Git, GitLab CI/CD, and automated deployment pipelines.
  • Experience with database monitoring and performance management tools.
  • Familiarity with RMF accreditation processes and DoD cybersecurity policies.
