Part Time Associate Patient Care Coordinator

Optum is seeking an Part Time Associate Patient Care Coordinator to join our growing team. At Optum, we are transforming healthcare nationally while providing physician-led care locally. Work with the largest care delivery organization in the world and start doing your life's best work.

Schedule: This is a part-time role averaging 20 hours per week from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm (Saturday and Sundays). Rotating Holidays. The schedule includes mandatory weekend coverage on Saturdays and Sundays. Work hours and schedule may vary based on business needs. Candidates must be flexible and willing to provide coverage at other locations when necessary.

Location: 327 Broad St, (Urgent Care), Sumter, SC 29150

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Greet and check in check out patients
  • Verifies patient demographics and insurance information
  • Collects outstanding balances, co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurances
  • Checks patients out and schedules future appointments
  • File, Fax and maintain medical records
  • Ability to maintain a work queue list- complete any pending actions ie referrals, scheduling appointments
  • Performs general clerical duties
  • Meets the communication needs of the patient/ family, practice providers, and practice staff
  • Participate in performance improvement activities
  • Greet patients in a professional and courteous manner
  • Directs patients to appropriate areas
  • Check-in' all patients, gives patient medical forms to complete and update if needed
  • Collecting payments, printing receipts, and posting payments
  • Scanning and filing patients' information if needed
  • Reconciles cash drawer daily and send deposits to Department manager
  • Follow the Payment Security policy and procedures according to Optum Medical guidelines
  • Retrieve and sort mail into appropriate boxes
  • Sorts and documents any returned mail
  • Maintains a good working relationship with practice staff members
  • Performs all other duties assigned
  • Meets dress code standards: appearance is neat and clean
  • Completes annual/ monthly education requirements
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled
  • Completes work in a timely manner
  • Attend staff meetings
  • Ensures patient confidentiality
  • Complies with all practice policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1 plus year of customer service or healthcare related experience
  • 1 plus year of computer proficiency experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, etc.)
  • Ability to work a 20-hour work week: This is a part-time role averaging 20 hours per week. The schedule includes mandatory weekend coverage on Saturdays and Sundays. Candidates must be flexible and willing to provide coverage at other locations when necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1 plus year of experience working in medical office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records
  • Knowledge EMR (ECW)
  • Knowledge of insurance carriers and managed care plans
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Ability to work independently and as a team, and maintain good judgment and accountability
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with health care providers
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet all deadlines
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, conveying information in a manner that others can understand, as well as ability to understand and interpret information from others

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $16 to $29 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
