What are optimization jobs?

Optimization jobs refer to roles that focus on improving systems, processes, or products to achieve the best possible performance, efficiency, or outcomes. These positions can be found in various industries, including engineering, data science, logistics, and business operations. Professionals in optimization analyze data, identify inefficiencies, and develop solutions using mathematical models, algorithms, or process improvements. Their goal is to maximize value while minimizing costs or resource use. Common job titles in this field include Optimization Engineer, Data Optimization Analyst, and Operations Research Analyst.

To thrive as an Optimization Specialist, you need strong analytical skills, a background in mathematics or engineering, and experience with data-driven decision-making. Familiarity with optimization software (such as Gurobi or CPLEX), programming languages like Python or R, and relevant certifications in operations research or analytics are typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication are essential soft skills for interpreting results and collaborating with stakeholders. These skills and qualities are crucial for identifying optimal solutions, improving efficiency, and delivering measurable business value.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in optimization roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in optimization roles often encounter challenges such as dealing with incomplete or noisy data, balancing multiple and sometimes conflicting objectives, and ensuring that solutions are scalable for real-world implementation. Addressing these challenges requires strong analytical skills, collaboration with domain experts, and the ability to communicate complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Leveraging advanced tools and staying updated with the latest optimization techniques can also enhance problem-solving capabilities and contribute to project success.

Job description

Job Description

Welcome to AMN Healthcare - Where Talent Meets Purpose

Ever wondered what it takes to build one of the largest and most respected healthcare staffing and total talent solutions companies? It takes trailblazers, innovators, and exceptional people like you.

At AMN Healthcare, we don't just offer jobs - we build careers that make a difference.

Why AMN Healthcare? Because Excellence Is Our Standard:

  • Named to Becker's Top 150 Places to Work in Healthcare - three years running.

  • Consistently ranked among SIA's Largest Staffing Firms in America.

  • Honored with Modern Healthcare's Innovators Award for driving change through innovation.

  • Proud holder of The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval for Staffing Companies since 2006.

Job Summary

AMN Healthcare is seeking a Senior Lead, SEO & Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) to own our organic search and AI discovery strategy across web properties. As LLMs and AI-powered search reshape how healthcare professionals and workforce decision-makers find information, this role will architect a modern search program that drives visibility, authority, and citation share across traditional SERPs, AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and emerging platforms.

Sitting at the intersection of technical SEO, content strategy, AI search optimization, and digital product marketing, you'll partner cross-functionally with Engineering, Product, Analytics, OMNI, and Content teams to lead the strategy, execution, and measurement that ensures AMN is discoverable, citable, and authoritative - everywhere candidates and clients search today.

Job Responsibilities

  • Own the design and execution of a multi-quarter SEO and AEO roadmap - including priorities, success metrics, and operating models across AMNHealthcare.com, Workwise.ai, and supporting digital properties

  • Define success beyond traffic: measure and report on AI visibility, citation share, brand authority, and downstream impact (conversions, applications, pipeline) across traditional and AI-powered search environments

  • Monitor and optimize citation share across LLMs (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) and AI Overviews, developing strategies to increase AMN's presence in AI-generated answers and summaries

  • Lead technical SEO strategy across crawlability, indexation, site architecture, canonicalization, XML sitemaps, and robots directives to maximize organic and AI discoverability

  • Design, deploy, and validate structured data and schema markup to improve visibility in both traditional SERPs and AI-powered search experiences

  • Establish clear guidance for how AMN content should be created, structured, optimized, and distributed to maximize visibility in AI-generated responses

  • Create citation-ready content with clear entities, definitions, comparisons, and evidence blocks that AI models can easily extract and reference

  • Partner with Content and Brand teams to execute keyword gap analyses, content briefs, and topical authority mapping aligned to candidate and client search intent

  • Ensure web content management systems, landing pages, and templates adhere to SEO/AEO best practices and support lifecycle marketing objectives

  • Build and maintain SEO/AEO measurement frameworks and dashboards using GA4, Google Search Console, SEMrush, BrightEdge, Profound, and emerging AI search analytics tools

  • Design and run A/B tests, personalization experiments, and content experiments to lift rankings, conversions, and engagement across web and Passport

  • Track and report on AI-driven traffic sources, keywords, and referral patterns (AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity) to inform content strategy and measure authority beyond traditional SERPs

  • Work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, OMNI, Analytics, Brand, and Paid Media teams to align search and discovery efforts with broader business goals

  • Balance and prioritize multiple projects across internal and external resources, including agency partners and vendor relationships

  • Serve as an internal subject matter expert on modern search, AEO, and AI discovery - educating stakeholders and embedding best practices into roadmaps, sprint planning, and content workflows

Required Skills

  • 7+ years of experience in SEO, digital marketing, or organic growth - with demonstrated expertise in technical SEO, content strategy, and site architecture

  • Hands-on experience with AEO/GEO - including optimizing for AI Overviews, LLM citation, and emerging AI-powered discovery platforms

  • Proficiency with SEO and analytics tooling: GA4, Google Search Console, SEMrush, BrightEdge, Screaming Frog, Ahrefs, Profound, and/or similar platforms

  • Experience with structured data strategy (schema markup, entity optimization) to improve SERP and AI readability

  • Strong understanding of web content management systems, landing page optimization, and conversion rate optimization methodologies

  • Strong analytical mindset - comfortable interpreting performance data, running experiments, and translating insights into actionable strategy

  • Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder collaboration skills, with the ability to present complex technical and AI-driven concepts to leadership

Qualifications

Education & Years of Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree plus 5-7 years of work experience OR High School Diploma/GED plus 9-11 years of work experience

Additional Experience

  • Experience in healthcare, staffing, marketplace, or workforce technology platforms

  • Familiarity with marketing automation platforms, CDPs (e.g., Optimizely Data Platform), or CRM-driven campaigns

  • Experience in search engine optimization for team management search engine optimization

Work Environment / Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in an office/home office environment.
