Job description

Position Summary

Blue Ops, a leader in advanced Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) production, is seeking a Marine Ops Technician to support the performance, safety, and reliability of marine equipment across Blue Ops’ USV operations.

This role is responsible for preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of marine systems, including engines, electrical, fuel, and cooling systems, as well as rigging, motor installations, and hull repairs. Working closely with technical and operations teams, the technician helps ensure equipment readiness, minimize downtime, and maintain safe, efficient on-water operations.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on, detail-oriented marine technician with strong mechanical skills and experience in diagnosing, repairing, and rigging marine systems. Proactive and reliable, with the ability to work in demanding environments and support safe, efficient on-water operations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preventative Maintenance and Seasonal Service
    • Perform annual and 100-hour service. Tune ups for improved performance and fuel efficiency
    • Marine systems and Electrical
    • Safety inspections and pre-trip checks
    • Work alongside Technical and Operations teams
    • Goal: Keep all equipment healthy and avoid breakdowns
  • Engine Services
    • Outboard & Diesel Engine diagnostics & troubleshooting
    • Fuel system cleaning & repair (carburetors, injectors, fuel pumps)
    • Cooling system service (water pumps, impellers, thermostats)
    • Electrical repairs (charging systems, batteries, wiring)
    • Powerhead rebuilds & overhauls
    • Mercury Bravo 3 Lower unit reseals & rebuilds, along with Jet Drive service and installations.
    • Mercury Outdrive, Styer Deisel and Jet Drive training available.
    • Goal: Fix performance issues and restore drivability when something is wrong
  • Rigging and Motor Installations
    • New outboard sales & installation
    • Re-rigging older boats with new motors
    • Steering systems (hydraulic, electronic, and mechanical)
    • Controls, gauges, and electronic display installs
    • Bravo 3, Jet Drive & performance rigging
    • Goal: Set up or reconfigure equipment on the boat
  • Fiberglass & Hull Services
    • Fiberglass crack and chip repairs
    • Structural repairs (stringers, transoms, decks)
    • Hull refinishing & polishing
    • Cosmetic scratch, gouge, and impact damage repair

Required Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a service technician or mechanic within the marine industry or related fields
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, and power tools
  • Experience with rigging operations and fabricating custom parts
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and schematics accurately for troubleshooting and repairs
  • Physical capacity for heavy lifting and working in demanding environments; willingness to perform maintenance tasks in various weather conditions
  • Must be able to handle small boats 25’- 30’ on and off the water; loading, towing, launching along with basic seamanship skills

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

  • Must be able to walk, stand, and navigate large indoor and outdoor facilities for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move materials and equipment weighing up to 25 lbs on a regular basis.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required in designated areas or when performing specific tasks, in accordance with safety protocols and company policy.
  • May be required to climb ladders, stoop, kneel, or crouch during inspections, maintenance walk-throughs, or emergency response situations.
  • Regular exposure to facility operations including noise, dust, temperature fluctuations, and industrial equipment.
  • Occasional off-hours or weekend work required for emergency facility responses or projects as needed
  • Requires frequent use of a computer and other standard office equipment for documentation, communication, and coordination tasks.
