The Operations Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing all day-to-day Port Arthur marine operations, reporting to the General Manager and supervising Assistant Managers and crews. The position is responsible for maintaining a safe, efficient, reliable, and fully staffed 24-hour operation
 
Primary responsibilities include: 
  • Operations: Plan and oversee daily marine operations, crew assignments, scheduling, staffing, and resource allocation. 
  • Personnel: Recruit, train, develop, retain, and hold operational employees accountable; maintain adequate depth of qualified personnel and develop future supervisors. 
  • Safety & Compliance: Provide active field safety leadership, identify hazards, enforce company requirements, and ensure compliance with regulatory and customer requirements. 
  • Vessel & Equipment Readiness: Ensure vessels, vehicles, boats, and equipment are properly inspected, maintained, repaired, and operationally ready. 
  • Emergency & Weather Response: Lead severe-weather preparations, emergency response, after-hours management, and recovery of operations following disruptions. 
  • Customer Relations: Maintain strong customer relationships, understand customer needs, address complaints, resolve service issues, and identify opportunities to improve service. 
  • Performance & Cost Management: Manage labor utilization, overtime, staffing efficiency, operational performance, and job/timekeeping accuracy. 
  • Communication: Maintain regular communication with the General Manager and other departments regarding staffing, customers, equipment, operational performance, and emerging issues. 
  • Facility & Workplace Standards: Maintain clean, organized, safe, and professional facilities, yards, vehicles, and work areas. 

 
Required Capabilities 
The ideal candidate needs strong marine line-handling knowledge, leadership, safety awareness, decision-making, communication, organizational, customer-service, and employee-management skills. They should understand the Port Arthur/Sabine Pass operating area and be capable of managing a 24-hour operation, including emergencies and changing operational demands. 
 
Experience & Qualifications 
  • High school diploma or equivalent 
  • At least 5 years of relevant marine/line-handling experience preferred 
  • Prior supervisory or management experience required 
  • Marine line-handling experience strongly preferred 
  • Valid TWIC
  •  • Valid driver's license with acceptable record 
    • Texas Parks and Wildlife boater education certification 
    • Ability to obtain required customer access credentials and certifications

Physical & Working Requirements 
This is a hands-on field and office management position, not an office-only role. The manager must be able to access docks, vessels, boats, yards, and industrial facilities; work around marine hazards and changing weather conditions; wear required PPE; and lift up to 50 pounds when necessary. Because the operation is 24/7, the manager must be available for nights, weekends, holidays, emergencies, and significant operational issues when needed.
