Compensation: $80,000–$120,000+ per year, depending on experience

Employment Type: Full-Time

Travel: Extensive regional travel, up to 90% during active construction periods

Project Scope: Highway, DOT, FAA, municipal, federal, concrete, paving, and heavy civil infrastructure projects

The Opportunity

Reede Construction, Inc. is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to lead complex heavy civil concrete and paving projects throughout the Upper Midwest.

This is a hands-on leadership position for a construction professional who can successfully operate in both the field and the management side of the business. You will oversee project execution, support field teams, manage cost and schedule performance, coordinate project documentation, and help strengthen the systems and processes behind Reede Construction's continued growth.

The ideal candidate brings strong heavy civil or transportation construction experience and is comfortable working directly with crews, project stakeholders, DOT representatives, subcontractors, and company leadership.

This position is based in Aberdeen, South Dakota, with regular travel to active project sites. Reede Construction primarily operates throughout North Dakota and South Dakota, with additional work across Nebraska, Minnesota, Wyoming, and surrounding Upper Midwest markets.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Lead daily field and project operations for highway, transportation, concrete, paving, and heavy civil construction projects.
  • Maintain a strong field presence while providing leadership to foremen, crews, subcontractors, and project personnel.
  • Manage project schedules, labor, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and site logistics to support safe and profitable execution.
  • Monitor project costs, production goals, KPIs, and overall job performance.
  • Implement and maintain DOT, FAA, AASHTO, and project-specific quality requirements.
  • Coordinate with owners, engineers, inspectors, DOT representatives, subcontractors, and internal leadership.
  • Identify and resolve technical, operational, scheduling, and logistical issues before they impact project delivery.
  • Support contract administration, documentation, shop drawings, change management, and project closeout activities.
  • Participate in construction planning, scheduling, cost reviews, and project forecasting.
  • Help develop and mentor field leaders while reinforcing accountability, safety, quality, and operational consistency.
  • Support estimating, takeoffs, preconstruction planning, and bid-to-build handoffs during the winter and off-season.
  • Help implement and improve technology, systems, and processes that increase efficiency and strengthen project management across the organization.

Required Qualifications & Experience

  • 5+ years of relevant experience in heavy civil, highway, DOT, transportation, concrete paving, or comparable infrastructure construction.
  • Demonstrated experience leading active construction projects, crews, or major project scopes.
  • Strong understanding of field operations, construction sequencing, scheduling, cost control, safety, and quality management.
  • Ability to manage multiple project priorities while maintaining attention to detail and accountability.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working in both field and office environments.
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout Reede Construction's regional project footprint.
  • Willingness to relocate to or maintain a permanent home base in the Aberdeen, SD area.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Civil Engineering background or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure.
  • Experience working directly with state DOTs, FAA projects, municipalities, or other government agencies.
  • Experience with concrete paving, highway construction, transportation infrastructure, or major civil site work.
  • Experience with project estimating, takeoffs, bidding, and preconstruction.
  • Familiarity with HCSS HeavyBid.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam.
  • Experience with Oracle-based construction planning or scheduling systems, including Oracle Primavera Cloud (OPC) or comparable platforms.
  • Experience progressing through superintendent, project manager, construction manager, or similar field-leadership roles.

Travel & Work Environment

  • This is not a remote management position.
  • Construction Managers are expected to maintain a meaningful presence on active project sites.
  • Projects are primarily located throughout the Upper Midwest, with many assignments within approximately a four-hour radius of Aberdeen.
  • Depending on project location and schedule, Construction Managers should generally expect opportunities to return home at least every other weekend, although critical project periods may require extended time on site.
  • A company vehicle is provided.
  • Travel-related per diem and support are provided in accordance with company policy.
  • Reede Construction works with employees individually when practical to help manage longer-distance travel demands.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive annual salary of $80,000–$120,000+, depending on experience and role level.
  • Company vehicle.
  • Travel per diem.
  • 401(k) retirement savings program with employer matching.
  • Medical, dental, life, and disability insurance options.
