Job description

Dissection Assistant (Part-Time)

Compensation & Benefits

Expected hourly range: $18.50 - $20.50 / hour (hourly rate is commensurate with experience and qualifications.)

Work Environment & Schedule

This position averages 28 hours per week (standard availability Monday – Friday, 8 am – 5 pm, MST), and works on-site at the Rocky Mountain University campus in Provo, UT. The position may include participation in anatomy laboratory instruction during assigned course lab sessions as well as tutoring support during late afternoons, evenings, and weekends. Work involves regular exposure to embalmed human cadavers, preservation chemicals, and laboratory environments requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.

About The Role

The Dissection Assistant is responsible for preparing and maintaining professional anatomical dissections of embalmed cadavers to support Applied Anatomy courses. This role ensures cadaver specimens are properly preserved and prepared for instructional use while maintaining laboratory safety standards.

What You Will Do

Cadaver Preparation and Laboratory Support

  • Prepare and maintain professional anatomical dissections for Applied Anatomy courses.
  • Maintain embalmed cadavers using appropriate chemical preservatives and wetting agents.
  • Participate in the dissection and preparation of approximately six to eight human cadavers annually for instructional use.
  • Ensure laboratory spaces, equipment, and specimens are maintained in accordance with safety requirements and established protocols.
  • Support compliance with laboratory health and safety standards.

Instructional Support and Tutoring

  • Assist with anatomy laboratory instruction when qualifications and department needs allow.
  • Provide academic support and tutoring to students during assigned lab sessions and, when applicable, during after-hours, evening, or weekend tutoring sessions.
  • Support faculty and students in achieving course learning objectives through effective laboratory preparation and instructional assistance.

What We Are Looking For

Education

  • Bachelor's degree with coursework relevant to human gross anatomy.

Experience

  • Documented experience performing human cadaver dissection.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Knowledge of human gross anatomy principles and anatomical structures.
  • Ability to perform detailed anatomical dissections with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Ability to maintain laboratory specimens using appropriate preservation techniques.
