POSITION TITLE: Agriscience Operations Assistant Weekdays - 5 Hours per Week
JOB SUMMARY: To provide care and maintenance of Shepaug farm including animals, greenhouses, and land use for agriscience students. To promote the ethical treatment of farm animals. To serve as a resource for the agriscience program. Candidate will assist with the maintenance and care of Agriscience lab spaces, including but not limited to equine and livestock facilities, and greenhouse.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Knowledge of large farm animals, pasture rotation, record keeping for farm care
  • Familiarity with maintaining and caring for livestock, small animals, and plants
    • Includes feeding various species (horses, cattle, goats, chickens, guinea pigs, rabbits, etc)
    • Cleaning and maintaining stalls, paddock spaces, and small animal cages
    • Turning out various large animal species (horses, cattle goats, etc)
    • Checking greenhouse plants and irrigation
  • Comfortable handling, haltering, leading, and monitoring the health of various animal species
  • Observant in facilities care and be able to recognize mechanical, animal, or plant-related problems
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds
  • Possess good communication skills and ability to follow instructions
  • Knowledge of basic first aid for various species
