CarMax is seeking a highly skilled professional to support the Accounting Operations Business Support & Analytics function located at the CarMax Home Office in Richmond, Virginia. This role is responsible for driving process optimization, business analysis, automation, and technology innovation across Accounting Operations and enterprise partnerships. The position collaborates with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable solutions leveraging advanced analytics, artificial intelligence (AI), robotic process automation (RPA), and modern data technologies. Successful candidates will combine strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving capabilities with accounting expertise to transform the business through innovation and data-driven decision making.

What you will do – Essential Responsibilities

  • Review, analyze, and optimize accounting operations processes, identifying opportunities for automation, efficiency gains, risk reduction, and improved controls.
  • Design, develop, and support AI-enabled, RPA, and workflow automation solutions that improve operational effectiveness and associate productivity.
  • Utilize tools such as Copilot, Claude, Alteryx, Python, SQL, Power Platform, and other analytics technologies to acquire, transform, automate, and analyze complex business data.
  • Develop advanced analytics, dashboards, and reporting solutions that provide actionable insights to Accounting Operations leadership and business partners.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for process improvement, automation, data governance, and emerging technologies.
  • Lead and participate in strategic projects focused on operational transformation, digital enablement, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Partner with Accounting, Finance, Technology, Compliance, and other business teams to define requirements and deliver technology-driven solutions.
  • Evaluate emerging AI, machine learning, and intelligent automation capabilities to identify opportunities that support business objectives.
  • Document business processes, automation solutions, and technical requirements to ensure scalability, sustainability, and appropriate controls.
  • Challenge the status quo by identifying innovative approaches that improve customer experience, operational efficiency, and business outcomes.
  • Perform root cause analyses and provide data-driven recommendations to address business challenges and improve performance.
  • Support enterprise initiatives through analytical expertise, automation design, testing, implementation, and change adoption activities.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and implement sustainable solutions.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into analytical, automation, and technology solutions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated passion for innovation, automation, process improvement, and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and execute effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders to achieve common business objectives.
  • Knowledge of data management, process mapping, workflow design, and operational controls.
  • Ability to independently lead workstreams and influence outcomes across teams and organizational levels.
  • Curiosity and willingness to continuously learn new technologies, tools, and analytical techniques, particularly in AI and intelligent automation.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of accounting, finance, business operations, analytics, automation, or related experience required, including knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • 3+ years of experience in business analytics, process improvement, data engineering, automation, or operational excellence preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience developing solutions using Alteryx, RPA, Python, Power Platform or similar analytics platforms preferred.
  • Experience utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) or Machine Learning technologies to improve business processes or decision-making strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) required.
  • Data analytics experience and proficiency managing data with SQL required.
  • Tableau or Power BI experience preferred.
  • Experience working with cloud-based analytics platforms and modern data architectures preferred.
  • Experience building automated workflows, bots, predictive models, or intelligent process automation solutions highly desirable.

Work Location and Arrangement: This role will be based out of the CarMax Home Office in Richmond, VA and Associates will work onsite 4 days per week.

The annual salary for this position is:

$104,200.00 - $166,700.00

May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Benefits:

Except as otherwise required by state law, CarMax Associates are entitled to the following paid sick, vacation, and holiday time.

Associates that are considered full-time hourly or commission/incentive eligible:

  • To earn up to 48 hours of sick time per year accrued on a per pay period basis and between 80 hours and 200 hours per year of vacation time after a 90 day waiting period depending on years of continuous service with the Company. 
  • For 8 hours of pay for each of a total of 6 paid scheduled holidays per year plus 1 floating holiday.  If such an Associate does work on a scheduled holiday due to business need, they are eligible for Holiday Premium Pay. 

Associates considered full-time salaried are entitled to paid time away with no specified limit as needed for sick, vacation, bereavement, jury duty, holidays, floating holiday, etc. subject to manager approval.
