Kenyon College is conducting a search for a qualified candidate to fill the position of Assistant/Associate Director of Athletics for Administration and Operations. The Assistant/Associate Director of Athletics for Administration and Operations serves as a member of the Athletics, Fitness & Recreation leadership team and provides support and oversight in key administrative and operational areas of the department. Responsibilities include sport supervision, business operations, event management, strategic initiatives, and departmental projects. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with coaches, staff, and campus partners to enhance the student-athlete experience and support the mission of Kenyon College. Appointment at the Assistant or Associate Director level will be based upon the successful candidate's qualifications, experience, and demonstrated leadership within intercollegiate athletics.
Essential Responsibilities:
Sport Supervision & Program Administration
  • Serve as the sport administrator for assigned varsity programs.
  • Provide guidance and support to coaches in the areas of program administration, planning, and student-athlete development.
  • Participate in coaching searches, onboarding, evaluations, and professional development initiatives.
  • Assist with program assessment and review processes.
  • Serve as a resource to coaches regarding departmental and institutional policies and procedures.

Business Operations & Administration
  • Assist with departmental budget planning, monitoring, and financial operations.
  • Support purchasing, travel coordination, contracts, and other administrative processes.
  • Collaborate with campus partners to ensure adherence to institutional policies and procedures.
  • Assist with departmental planning, assessment, and operational improvement efforts.

Event Operations & Championships
  • Assist in the planning and execution of home contests, conference championships, NCAA events, and special departmental events.
  • Support game management and event operations in collaboration with athletics operations staff.
  • Coordinate event logistics and operational needs with campus and external partners as appropriate.

Facilities & Operational Planning
  • Collaborate with athletics facilities and operations staff to support scheduling, facility usage, and event needs.
  • Participate in discussions related to facility enhancements, renovations, and long-range planning initiatives.
  • Assist with operational projects that support departmental goals and priorities.

Compliance and Governance Support
  • Assist with NCAA, conference, and institutional compliance efforts as assigned.
  • Provide support for compliance operations during periods of staff absence or transition.
  • Support rules education, reporting, and documentation processes.
  • Promote adherence to NCAA Division III, conference, and institutional policies.

Strategic Initiatives & Campus Partnerships
  • Assist with departmental strategic initiatives and special projects.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with campus partners including Admissions, Advancement, Finance, Facilities, Communications, and Student Affairs.
  • Represent Athletics, Fitness & Recreation on institutional committees and professional organizations as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities
  • Attend conference, NCAA, and institutional meetings as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of Athletics, Fitness and Recreation.

Minimum Qualifications:
Assistant Director Level:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in collegiate athletics, higher education, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated understanding of NCAA Division III philosophy and operations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Associate Director Level:
  • Bachelor's degree required; master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in collegiate athletics administration or a related field.
  • Experience with sport supervision, operations, event management, business administration, or related responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated understanding of NCAA Division III philosophy and operations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience serving as a sport administrator.
  • Experience with athletics budgeting and business operations.
  • Experience with event management and championship administration.
  • Experience supporting NCAA compliance efforts.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage projects and collaborate across multiple departments.
  • Experience working in a highly selective liberal arts college environment.
