Job description

Head of Operations (COO)

Sunscape Landscaping | Austin, TX | Full-Time | Reports to the CEO

Sunscape Landscaping - a fast-growing, commercial landscaping platform in Austin, TX - is hiring its first Head of Operations to own day-to-day execution across all branches, drive margin, quality, and accountability, and build the operating model that lets us scale across Texas.

This is a true #2 seat: real P&L ownership, the Branch Managers reporting to you, and a clear path to regional leadership as we grow. If you carry a number, run by scorecards, and can hold a long-tenured team accountable while earning their respect in the field, we want to talk.

THE ROLE

  • POSITION TITLE: Head of Operations (COO)
  • REPORTS TO: CEO
  • LOCATION: Austin HQ, with regular travel to all branches and future markets (Houston / Dallas).
  • THE MISSION: Own the day-to-day operation of Sunscape across all branches - hitting margin, retention, and quality targets - and build the repeatable operating model that lets us scale across Texas.

RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • LMA (Lead, Manage, and Hold Accountable) the Branch Managers and the operations leadership team.
  • Own day-to-day operations across all branches (North Austin, Central Austin, San Antonio, and future markets).
  • Own the operating P&L — margin, labor efficiency, customer retention, quality, and safety with real-time, branch-by-branch accountability.
  • Run the weekly Level 10 meeting and drive the quarterly goals and projects to completion.
  • Build a scorecard and accountability culture — People Analyzer and Instant Performance Feedback for every operating manager;
  • Recruit, hire, develop, and manage the operations team and talent.
  • Drive the upsell engine — grow enhancement (ENH) and irrigation (IRR) penetration.
  • Partner with the Controller to enforce accounting discipline and branch-level cost control.
  • Standardize systems, SOPs, and technology — Aspire, fleet, procurement, and H-2B logistics - and ensure they are Followed By All.
  • Own customer retention and protect the largest accounts alongside the CEO.
  • Build the acquisition-integration playbook and onboard acquired companies as regional branches onto the Sunscape operating model.
  • Think 6–24 months ahead — bring the CEO options and recommendations, not just problems.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of operations leadership in multi-site / multi-branch field services (landscaping, facilities, janitorial, restoration, pest control, distribution, or similar).
  • Direct P&L ownership at $10M+ in revenue — you have carried the number, not just managed projects.
  • A track record of developing managers and holding them accountable through systems and scorecards — not by personally pressing harder.
  • Process and technology discipline; equally comfortable in the field and in the financial model.
  • Fits EOS/Traction; can be the Integrator to a Visionary CEO and wants to run operations.
  • Austin-based or willing to relocate; able to travel to all branches and future markets.
  • Strongly preferred: green-industry / commercial landscaping background; acquisition-integration experience; Spanish; Aspire or ServiceTitan.

COMPENSATION

Base $150–210K plus a performance bonus of 20–30% of base tied to profit, margins, and retention. Weighted toward variable to reward results. Long-term incentive revisited after a successful first year.

BENEFITS

  • Paid vacation.
  • Health insurance.
  • 401k plan with matching.
  • A clear path to a regional leadership role as we scale and acquire across Texas.
  • A high-performance team, new equipment and technology, and regular team-building events.

CORE VALUES

At Sunscape, our culture matters as much as performance. We hire people who are:

  • Accountable – We do what we say we’ll do.
  • Growth-Minded – We constantly improve.
  • Positive – We bring solutions and uplift others.
  • Good People – Humble, respectful, and team-oriented.
  • Deliver with Quality – We take pride in everything we do.
