Job description

Title:                           Extruder Operator Assistant

Functional Area:       Extrusion Department

Reports to:                 Shift Supervisor

Schedule:                     Dupont Rotating 12 hour

Position Description: The primary purpose of the position is to assist the Extruder Operator with the running of the film extrusion line. Responsible for the day-to-day operations of quality control checks, labeling, palletization of products, assisting the Extruder Operator, achieving objectives of output, quality, and safety. 

Extruder Operator Assistant Responsibilities:

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assisting the Extruder Operator in tool changes and product changes when and where needed.
  • Helping to meet production standards, minimizing scrap and downtime.
  • Removing rolls from the winder of the extruder.
  • Labeling, packaging, and palletizing rolls for delivery to customers.
  • Performing quality checks on material, comparing actual results to specifications, and communicating results to the Extruder Operator.
  • Accurate and complete reporting of production and quality data both manually and in computer systems.

Key Competencies:

  • Performing all job functions in a safe manner, follow and enforce all TRIDENT policies and procedures.
  • Leading housekeeping efforts and always maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Identifying and immediately communicating personnel and safety issues to the Shift Supervisor and assisting with investigations and resolutions of the issues if needed.
  • Reporting any continuous improvement opportunities to the Shift Supervisor.
  • Moving materials as needed using forklifts or overhead cranes.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Excellent safety and attendance record.
  • Ability to work 12 hour rotating day and night shifts, and report on time for scheduled shifts and follow company attendance policies.
  • Possesses strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Possesses basic knowledge in math, addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
  • Possesses basic computer skills.
  • Ability to balance and achieve results in the areas of Safety, Quality, Productivity and Cost Reduction
  • Must have the ability to complete two or more tasks simultaneously.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with little or no supervision and maintain a working and up-to-date knowledge of products and services.
  • Must be able to handle self in a professional manner with co-workers and supervisors.
  • Ability to take responsibility for self and team.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to continually bend, stoop, crouch, reach above shoulder, use arms, wrists, grasp and squeeze with hands, access constricted spaces, and lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
  • Must be able to withstand occasional exposure to dusty or dirty ambient conditions.
  • Must be able to withstand occasional exposure to hot or cold ambient conditions.
  • Must be able to withstand occasional exposure to mild chemical irritants.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing equipment.
  • Excellent forklift skills with the ability to safely move pallets of material into storage racks.
  • Ability to use an overhead crane to safely move products and machine parts with no damage.

Training:

  • Training would be a mixture of online training on safety, quality, and production procedures along with on-the-job training conducted by an experienced Extruder Operator Assistant.
  • Additional training would be provided as needed by the Extruder Operator.
  • Training duration would normally be 3 weeks.
